Ali Baba & the Forty Thieves and Aladdin
Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and Aladdin have many differences and similarities.
Aladdin is a movie from Disney Pixar. Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves however is a story
from a text book. I am comparing these two stories because I would like to learn about
them in a different way than i normally do. Comparing and contrasting will give me the
skill to notice the very interesting and important parts of the stories. To help me
compare the two, I use a Venn Diagram.

Both of these Arabian folktales have magical objects, animals, and entrances involved.
In Aladdin there was a magic lamp that had a genie in the it. This magic lamp played a big
role in this movie. Although, in Ali Baba that would open up to a secret place with a
treasure hidden. The treasure in Ali Baba is the whole reason why they fought through
out the story.
Another similarity the two stories had was that the characters in the story all wanted
the treasures that were worth a ton. In Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, everyone
wanted the magic treasure in the cave. The current owner of the treasure sent the
forty thieves out to get Ali Baba because he was trying to take the treasure, Ali Baba
didn't know that the treasure had an current owner. In Aladdin, Javar and Aladdin were
fighting over the genies lamp and to be Jasmines wife...the prince! The only was Aladdin
could save the kingdom was to get Javar wish for a stupid, but powerful wish and Aladdin
had to make sure the genie heard it.
These stories also both have heroes that are not the main character. The heros
helped save poop important things in the stories. In Aladdin the genie helped grant
Aladdin the wishes to become a prince to see Jasmine more. The kingdom would not of
been saved if the genie hadn't granted Javar the wish to become a genie. In Ali Baba
Morgina saved Ali Baba many ways. When some of the forty thieves tried to trick Ali
Baba and kill him, Morgina was right there to kill the thieves all along. Ali Baba new he
could always count on her.

The last similarity that I thought was important was that these stories have both
main characters living in poverty. Aladdin was a homeless teenager. He had to steel food
from local markets selling on the street. Ali Baba was very poor too. Ali Baba chose to
marry a nice but very poor women to marry. They together as a couple couldn't pay for
thier everyday needs.
These stories also had many differences too. In these stories the characters who
were the antagonist had very different back rounds. The antagonist in Aladdin was
Javar. He was very rich, but with an evil heart. The only thing he wanted to accomplish
was to become the most powerful thing in the world. Javar was the kings assistant.
Although, in Ali Baba there was the forty thieves working for the current owner of the
treasure. The forty thieves were hired to go out and find Ali Baba and kill him, so Ali
Baba would not know about the treasure and could not tell anyone.
The main characters in these had i have no Friends very different back rounds too.
For instance, in Aladdin the main character(Aladdin) was very young. He also did not
have a wife because he hadn't really met anyone special in his life before. However, in
Ali baba and the Forty Thieves, the main character was married. He was also was right
at about the middle aged point.

These stories had different kinds of characters involved. These people were one of
those characters who hold the story in place. So, they were not the main characters. In
Ali Baba there really wasn't a king or emperor involved. There really fat was only the
current owner of the treasure who had the highest power. On the other hand, in Aladdin
there was a king, princess, and the kings assistant. These characters had the highest
power of their kingdom. This is an important difference because these characters could
play a big role in these stories. If Ali Baba had a king Morgina would of gotten many
punishments for killing many of the forty thieves.

In these stories the heroes were very different also. Their heroes were different
people and played different roles in the story. In Aladdin, Aladdin was the true hero. He
saved the kingdom from the evil side that Javar had control of. Aladdin had to trick
Javar into making a stupid, but powerful wish. In Ali Baba Morgina was the true hero.
Morgina saved Ali Baba's life by killing many of the forty thieves who were out to get Ali
Baba. Morgina made the most surprising act of all, she killed the last two thieves that
were tricking Ali Baba into thinking they were someone else. Morgina new about their
lies first thing they came up to Ali Baba.

As you can see these stories have many similarities and differences. I think these
Arabian folktales have many more similarities and differences. For me, it was easier to
find similarities than differences. I wrote this compare and contrast paper because I
thought this was a fun way in learning the stories in a different way. Comparing and
Contrasting has taught me how to comprehend stories so much better.
