Reaching Consensus
• Consensus is reaching a mutual agreement. There are
usually six steps in the consensus decision making
process
• Consensus is an alternative to top down decision making
• Social media can be used to help reach consensus
through polls or by asking followers a question. Example
question:
Which FIFA world cup football did you prefer? 2010 or
2014?
This can help reach consensus in deciding which way to go
for the 2018 football.
Planning IS development
• Technology has an impact on organisations. All
employees are affected, personally and in relation
to work.
• Employees have to overcome new problems due to
social media being deployed by companies.
Adversities, personal data intrusion etc.
• Greater flow of information between organisations
and their customers due to social media.
Dealing with privacy
• Data protection act controls how personal
information is used by organisations.
• Adidas privacy policy states what personal data is
collected, who collects your personal data and
assure users that they use ethical principles to
protect personal information.
• Cases opened in the last 10 years due to
infringement of employees right to privacy. Impact
assessment should be conducted whenever
monitoring is conducted.
Investing in information
• Companies have always invested in internal and
external information systems but in recent years social
media has become important too
• Facebook ingests around 500 time more data each day
than the New York stock exchange. Social media is an
opportunity for organisations to find out the finest details
and needs of their customers which weren’t accessible
before
• Raw social media data should be made into social
media intelligence which is the finished good after
collecting data with set goals and criteria in mind.
