1. WIKIPORTFOLIO Assignment
Purpose of this assignment:
To create an electronic portfolio in which you can store/organize class assignments and other
materials related to your teaching experience
DATE DUE: Sunday, September 9th by midnight
This assignment has three parts:
1. Building your wiki
2. Inviting members
3. Adding content
1. Build a wiki-portfolio with the following pages:
Biography
Teaching Philosophy
Diversity
Pedagogy
Profession
Technology
2. Here are the steps to help you through this assignment:
1. Go the following web site: http://www.wikispaces.com/
2. Create a new account (http://www.wikispaces.com/content/student); Complete the
pop up form as follows. Education use is FREE. Make certain you select for higher
education and that you certify this wiki is for education use. Do not select a PAID
account.

Once you have completed the steps, you will see the NEXT Screen.
3. CREATING PAGES for your WIKI-SPACES
1. In the dark grey box, you will see the line (PAGES AND FILES) and a plus sign next to it. Click on
the plus sign.
The next screen will pop up and note, I have typed in the page I want to create. Select CREATE.
4. Type in the title of the page in the larger area and HIT SAVE. Congrats!!! You have created YOUR FIRST
WIKI PAGE.
Do this for the rest of the pages:
Biography
Teaching Philosophy
Diversity
5. Pedagogy
Profession
Technology
PART 2: Inviting PEOPLE to access your wiki
1. Click on MANAGE WIKI on the grey sidebar and you will see the following page:
In the second row, you will see the following: INVITE PEOPLE.
Click on it. When the pop up box comes, just type the name of the person you wish to invite to have
access to view your wiki.
When you become a teacher, you can create a wiki for each of your individual students or for groups so
students can work together online. You can also create a wiki just for parents.
There are many wikis in WIKISPACES just for specific content areas. Although it is not a class
requirement, you may want to join the wikispaces that are related to your content area.
Make certain to invite me to your wiki so I can grade it: My email is mhricko@kent.edu
6. THE LAST Part….we are almost done.
Please complete the following information in your portfolio:
1. Biography Page
a. a photo or image that reflects you
b. academic program of study
c. favorite quote about teaching or learning
2. Teaching Philosophy (200 word statement)
a. Draft a general statement regarding YOUR overall teaching philosophy (we will modify
this later).
b. Include commentary about why you want to teach in your content area. Why do you
want to be a teacher of the subject you are pursuing? Why do you want to be a Special
Ed teacher? Etc.
How I will grade this:
