The document outlines a 7th grade science lesson plan about the digestive system. The lesson objectives are to identify the parts and functions of the digestive system, understand the importance of each organ in processing food, and trace the correct pathway of food inside the digestive system. The lesson includes activities like a puzzle game about nutrient deficiency diseases and matching organs to their functions. It evaluates students through a matching quiz and illustrating the food pathway. The teacher reflects on which teaching strategies worked well and areas needing improvement.
1. School: Barlo Integrated School Grade Level: 7
Teacher: Mary Grace N. Lemon Learning Area: Science
Date & Time: May 17, 2021 / 8:30-9:30 AM Quarter 4 Week 1
I. Objectives:
A. Content Standards: the digestive system and its interaction with the
circulatory, respiratory, and excretory systems in providing the body with
nutrients for energy
B. Performance Standards: present an analysis of the data gathered on
diseases resulting from nutrient deficiency
C. Most Essential Learning Competency: explain ingestion, absorption,
assimilation, and excretion
D. Learning Objectives: At the end of the discussion, the learners are
expected to:
a. identify the parts and function of the digestive system;
b. internalize the importance of each organ in processing the food; and
c. trace the correct pathway of food inside the digestive system.
II. Content:
Structures and Functions
Focus on the Digestive System

III. Procedures
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
3. Activity 1: Puzzle No More!
In this activity, the students will discover the diseases caused by
nutrient deficiency.
(Teaching Strategy: Game-based Learning)
(Subject Integration: Integration to Health on nutritional deficiency)
(GAD Practices: Equalized opportunity to learners)

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
Teacher:
There are lot more diseases that humans acquire due to nutrient
deficiency especially in children. In an article in businessmirror.com written by
Claudeth Mocon-Ciriaco on February 7, 2019, according to a recent study by the
Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), the current chronic malnutrition
rate among Filipino children aged 0 to 2 is at 26.2 percent, the highest in 10
years. So, out of 100 children aged 0 to 2, how many suffers from malnutrition?
Can we avoid the diseases caused by nutrient deficiency? What should
we do? What should we eat?
(Subject Integration: Mathematics percentage)
(Teaching Strategy: Lecture/Telling; Inquiry-based Learning)
C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson
Fruits and vegetables along with other foods are full of variety of nutrients
that keep us healthy. How does the nutrients from the food absorbed by our
body? What specific system in our body is responsible for this?
(Teaching Strategy: Inquiry-based learning)
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1
Now class, we are going to watch a video from youtube about digestive system.
Please take note the processes that takes place.
Guide Questions:
1. What makes the organs so important to us?
2. How do the organs of the digestive system work together?
3. What do you think will happen if one part is injured or damaged?
Concept:
Insufficient intake of nutrients can cause nutrition disorders. These disorders
may cause health problems, especially in children, which may hinder growth
and development.
(Teaching Strategy: Discovery approach via Video Presentation, Inquiry-
based learning)
E. Developing mastery
The teacher will discuss further the parts and functions of the digestive
system via power point presentation and with use of the human torso model.
(Teaching Strategy: Discussion)
F. Finding practical application of new concepts and skills in daily living
Guide Questions:
1. Teenagers like you sometimes do not eat breakfast and drink sodas and
junk foods for snack. Do you think it is healthy?
3. School: Barlo Integrated School Grade Level: 7
Teacher: Mary Grace N. Lemon Learning Area: Science
Date & Time: May 17, 2021 / 8:30-9:30 AM Quarter 4 Week 1
2. What part of your digestive system will be first affected if you continually
do that habit for a long time?
3. Do you think it will lead to a more serious illness like colon cancer?
(Teaching Strategy: Guided questions)
G. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson
Activity 2
Match my Organ
This is a class activity. I will give the names of the organs and each group
will have a volunteer representative to paste the name to the appropriate
organ in the picture.
Very good class. Now I want you to ponder in this question and share your
thoughts.
(Teaching Strategy: Use of Illustration)
I. Evaluating learning
A. Matching Type: Match the following functions (Column A) to its
respective organs (Column B) in the digestive system.
Colum A Column B
___1. Stores the stool from the colon A. Esophagus
___2. Propels or pushes food to the stomach B. Anus
___3. Ingests and chews food C. Small intestine
___4. Absorbs breakdown products of
carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids
D. Stomach
___5. Produces bile for fat digestion and elimination E. Large Intestine
___6. Solidify the waste products by absorbing water F. Mouth
___7. Secretes acid and enzymes that transform
food into creamy fluid called chyme
G. Liver
___8. An opening which solid waste passes and
eliminated.
