This document discusses the importance of ethical behavior. It begins by defining ethics as the study of right and wrong human actions and how it guides decision making. It then lists several reasons why ethical behavior is important: it makes society better, promotes equality, helps businesses succeed, and lessens stress. The document also covers advantages of ethical behavior such as gaining trust and competitive advantages for businesses. Potential disadvantages include reduced profits from prioritizing ethics over maximizing gains. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of practicing and teaching ethical behavior.
3. Introduction
Ethics is the branch of study dealing with what is the
proper course of action for man. It answers the
question, "What do I do?" It is the study of right and
wrong in human actions. It is our means of deciding
a course of action.
4. IMPORTANCE OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOR
Make society better. When we help make society
better, we are rewarded with also making better
own lives and the lives of our families and
friends. Without moral conduct, society would be a
miserable place.
5. IMPORTANCE OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOR
Treat everyone equally. Equality is a cornerstone
of most Western democracies, where all individuals
are afforded the same rights. This is not possible
without the majority of citizens behaving in a moral
manner.
6. IMPORTANCE OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOR
Succeed at business. If you are employed in an
occupation in which there you must rely on
others, your moral conduct will determine the
degree of goodwill that you receive from others.
Businesses that have a checkered moral history are
typically viewed with caution and are unlikely to
attract new customers through word of mouth, and
therefore are unlikely to prosper. This is especially
the case where social media makes customer
reviews readily accessible.
7. IMPORTANCE OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOR
Lessen stress. When we make immoral decisions, we tend to
feel uncomfortable and concerned about our decision making.
Making the right moral decision, or taking a principled
perspective on an issue, reduces stress.
When most people think of ethics (or morals), they think of rules
for distinguishing between right and wrong, such as the Golden
Rule ("Do unto others as you would have them do unto you").
8. IMPORTANCE OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOR
Most people learn ethical norms at home, at school, in mosque,
or in church, or in other social settings. Although most people
acquire their sense of right and wrong during childhood, moral
development occurs throughout life and human beings pass
through different stages of growth as they mature. Ethical norms
are so ubiquitous that one might be tempted to regard them as
simple commonsense
10. Why to be Ethical ?
Ethics are often described as the good that humans
aim towards. Morality concerns the way humans can
attain this good. In the context of decision-making,
ethics are personal standards of right and wrong.
11. Advantages:
Business ethics offer companies a competitive advantage.
Consumers learn to trust ethical brands and remain loyal to
them, even during difficult periods. In 1982, Johnson &
Johnson spent over $100 million dollars recalling Tylenol, its
best-selling product, after someone tampered with bottles of
the painkiller. The company followed its credo, a set of ethical
organizational values, and the result was a boost in consumer
confidence, despite the contamination scare. Society benefits
from business ethics because ethical companies recognize
their social responsibilities.
12. Advantages:
1:Ethical people are those who recognize the
difference between right and wrong.
2:Ethical individuals make an effort to treat
everyone with whom.
13. Advantages:
3:Trading in an ethical and socially conscious
manner will benefit businesses off all sizes on
a number of levels.
15. Disadvantages:
Business ethics reduce a company's freedom to maximize its
profit. For example, a multinational company may move its
manufacturing facility to a developing country to reduce
costs. Practices acceptable in that country, such as child labor,
poor health and safety, poverty-level wages and coerced
employment, will not be tolerated by an ethical company.
Improvements in working conditions, such as a living wage
and minimum health and safety standard's reduce the level of
cost-savings that the company generates. However, it could
be argued that the restrictions on company freedom benefit
wider society.
16. Disadvantages:
1: less profit because they will need to pay
higher wages.
2: The fact that the organization may be able
to make more money when they are less
ethical.
18. Conclusion
Now that you understand the idea of business
ethics, it is important to practice good ethical
behavior. Leading by example; teaching by
example; being a role model; these are all
things that will come if you practice ethical
behavior and chose to make the right
decisions.
