The seasonal climate changes have direct effects on determination of crop water requirement, irrigation scheduling and the potential of solar energy generation to operate the pumping system for watering crops. This research paper studied the technical evaluation of solar pumping and pressurized drip irrigation systems to investigate the recommended water required for suggested tomatoes crop in area of (one hectare) at AL-Salman district using measured climatic data from AL-Salman Agro-meteorological weather station for a period (2013-2017). The maximum average monthly of solar radiation was 7.6 kWh/m2 at June in all the years of recording data, while the minimum average monthly value was 3.37kWh/m2 at December where the sun at lowest point across the sky. The annual average hours of peak sun that corresponds to the operation time of the pumping system at maximum water consumption was calculated at eight months from March to October with a value of 7.2 hours/day, while it was 5.2 hours/day during the other four months (January, February, November and December). The Solar pumping sizing based on H-Q performance curve of a maximum flow rate of 64.45 m3/h and pump capacity of 16.79 kW with compounds motor pump efficiency of 61.2%. The total water production was 230000 m³/per year which indicates compatible overall system design and adequate to irrigate more planting land with same or other crop types.

The paper focuses on generating the renewable energy source from industrial waste water effluents. Utilizing the industrial waste water in order to generate electricity, a flow control sensor has been installed at the outlet of the tunnel which passes the waste water to the turbine. As per the need, the generation of electricity varies with respect to the flow through the use of flow control sensor. The generated electricity is then used for powering the street lights, gardening and run-way paths, during night time. The flow control sensor when integrated using IoT and cloud storage facilitates efficiency and scalability thereby providing massive utilization of energy usage.

Manikin Irrigation Area (I.A) has ± 3000 ha of the area, utilizes the water source from the Tefmo Dam and distributes to the Primary-Secondary-Tertiary channels with controlled by watergates that operated by lift. This mechanism has resulted in jealousy and squabbles in farmer groups because of the inequality distribution that ultimately decreases crop production. The development of Microcontroller Technology has changed the Watergate model into an automated system based on certain parameters and algorithms. One of that being developed is the smart irrigation system based on Arduino at Manikin I.A that regulates the water to land based on the time from the Real-Time Clock sensor and uses Direct Current (DC) motor as a driver to watergate. While it may work, but the system has not considered the power requirement of DC motor when the water flows in the maximum discharge and pressure affecting the motor. This study examines the power requirement of an ideal DC motor for smart watergate in 5 open channels in Manikin I.A. Based on the open channel standard parameters, a total load measurement is performed when the water given speed (V) and pressure (p) then converted to energy. The study results that on 5 different open channels in Manikin I.A, with 0.30 m3/s maximum water discharge and 7.56 m/s2 flow rate, a watergate control requires DC motor that has 35 to 43 Watt power (39,4 Watt average power) or 3 to 3.5 Ampere current (3,26 Ampere average Current) in order to 24-hours work.

Geological characters analysis is essential for micro hydropower plant (MHP) development planning. This paper presents an analysis of the geological aspect to determine the layout of MHP components based on remote sensing data as part of a solution to addressing power shortages in Sungai Are District, South Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra Province. Remote sensing and topographic map were extracted to identify the potential site. The topographic map and geological analysis were used to calculate the potential of electrical energy and the geological hazard risk, particularly floods and landslides. The results of the study identified four potential sites. Site 1 (Luas River, Ulu Danau Village) and site 3 (Putih River, Gintung Village) are suitable for MHP with a low cost of construction. Site 2 (Pecah Pinggan Village) and site 4 (Simpang Luas Village) are prone to flooding and landslides that makes it suitable for MHP but with a high cost of construction. Based on the geological aspect analysis, it is possible to optimize the hydropower capacity, by adding the volume of water flow from several nearby tributaries channeled into the hydropower flow system through civil construction engineering or by making a cascade design on the tailrace water flow

The project is designed to develop an automatic irrigation system which switches the pump motor ON/OFF on sensing the moisture content of the soil. In the field of agriculture, use of proper method of irrigation is important. The advantage of using this method is to reduce human intervention and still ensure proper irrigation. The project uses an arduino which is programmed to receive the input signal of varying moisture condition of the soil through the sensing arrangement. This is achieved by using an arduino which acts as interface between the sensing arrangement . Once the controller receives this signal, it generates an output that drives a relay for operating the water pump. An LCD display is also interfaced to the microcontroller to display status of the soil and water pump. The sensing arrangement is made by using two stiff metallic rods inserted into the field at a distance. Connections from the metallic rods are interfaced to the control unit. The concept in future can be enhanced by integrating GSM technology, such that whenever the water pump switches ON/OFF, an SMS is delivered to the concerned person regarding the status of the pump. We can also control the pump through SMS.

Solar Power Based Automatic Irrigation System

The main purpose of this project is to develop a Solar Watering System capable of performing irrigation or watering task automatically and is powered by Photovoltaic (PV) panels. A moisture sensor in the soil is used to check the need for irrigation in order to operate a pump powered by the PV system and lead acid battery. In addition to the input from moisture sensor, Timer function within the PIC18F4550 was also applied to prevent watering to many times per day. This ensures that the crop or plant in the field will not have growth problems due to overwatering. In order to increase energy harvesting from the sun radiation, sun tracker in the form of single axis was designed. Horizontal Single Axis Tracker (HSAT) was build based on the feedback from two Light Dependent Resistors (LDR) and an opaque sheet dividing them so that shadow will be casted on either one of them when the sun moves. The fully developed prototype has shown that the system able to reduce wastage and human intervention at minimum cost as the entire system runs only using solar energy. Therefore it can be said as a standalone unit which requires no additional devices or powers and requires minimal maintenance and attention

Being a good quality water resource, groundwater was over used during the last three decades to serve high water demand due to rapid growth in Bangkok and its vicinity. Excessive pumping rate of groundwater in Bangkok results in land subsidence problem and groundwater quality deterioration due to saltwater intrusion into shallow aquifers adjacent to the coast. This study applied a simple linear Genetic Algorithm (GA) model as an alternative tool for monitoring and forecasting of groundwater table. Nonthaburi aquifer, one of three major aquifers amongst seven aquifers in greater Bangkok area, was analyzed in the study. Monthly groundwater table of 43 monitoring wells, amongst 92 wells, 12 years (1997-2009) data was analyzed with land use map. GA was used to divide groundwater basin into sub-regions. Comparison between capability of GA and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models for prediction of groundwater level reveals that ANN model has a better performance for all cases. However, GA model might be used to predict groundwater level with an acceptable accuracy (9% to 26% relative error). Better performance was obtained in medium to high residential area and industrial area (9-19% relative error). Due to its simplicity as well as period of record length of data requirement, GA is another appropriate alternative tool for monitoring and forecasting groundwater table fluctuation particularly for insufficient data area.

This study is designed to develop an automatic irrigation system that switches (ON/OFF) a pump motor by sensing the moisture content of the soil using wireless technology. Through GSM Modem, the sensed moisture content data will be sent as an SMS to the user. The project uses 8051 series microcontroller, which is programmed to receive the input signal of varying moistures of the soil through sensors. This is achieved by using an op-amp as comparator which acts as interface between the sensing device and the microcontroller. Once the controller receives the signal, it generates an output that drives a relay for operating the water pump. It also sends an SMS to the concerned number using GSM modem. An LCD display is also interfaced to the microcontroller to display the status of the soil and water pump ON/Off condition. The sensing arrangement is made using two stiff metallic rods inserted to the agricultural field required to be in control. Connections from the metallic rods are interfaced to the control unit. This concept can also be enhanced by integrating XBEE/Bluetooth technology, such that whenever the water pump switches ON/OFF, the information is sent to a smart mobile phone or XBEE transceiver module regarding the status of the pump.
