11. “Picture Puzzle”
Mechanics:
Students will be divided into three (3) groups.
Each of the grouped students will be assigned to
form a puzzle into a picture of something that may
cause harm.
* the song “Bahay Kubo” will be sung by the students as this will serve
as their timer.
14. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
Differentiate the hazard and risk;
Identify and explain the different hazards that can be seen in
the workplace;
Establish and recognize contingency measures to maintain
safety at work; and
Practice the occupational health and safety procedures.
16. HAZARD
“A hazard is any source of
potential damage, harm or
adverse health effects on
something or someone.”
www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/hsprograms/hazard_identification.html
22. BIOLOGICAL HAZARD
substance that poses a threat to the
health of living organisms, primarily
humans.
SOME EXAMPLE OF BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS
ARE: VIRUS, BACTERIA,FUNGI AND OTHER
MICRO-ORGANISMS
23. EXAMPLES OF BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS
RISKS: ACQUIRING
PULMONARY AND
SKIN DISEASES
CAUSED BY BACTERIA,
FUNGI, VIRUSES AND
OTHER MICRO-
ORGANISM
25. Chemical Hazard
condition of potential damage to health
or environment by chemical substances
or agent
Chemical hazard may include : solid, liquid, gas
or vaporous substance, fumes and midst
26. EXAMPLES OF CHEMICAL HAZARDS
RISK
EXPOSURE TO HARMFUL
CHEMICALS MAY LED TO:
SKIN, RESPIRATORY,
PULMONARY DISEASES
AND EVEN DEATH
29. ERGONOMIC HAZARD
a factor in the environment that may hurt the
musculoskeletal system, Includes physical
conditions like awkward postures, repetitive
motion, or poor lighting or frequent exposure
to radiation
32. PHYSICAL HAZARD
a term that describes any situation,
factor, or agent that can cause physical
harm to a person. It can be found in
various industries and workplaces, such
as mining, construction, and offices.
Some examples of physical hazards are heat, noise, electrical hazards, and
tripping hazards
36. PSYCHOLOGICAL HAZARD
are any hazards or risks in one’s environment
and society that can cause harm. In a
workplace setting, psychosocial hazards are
things that can cause stress, depression or
mental illness such bullying, workloads, and
other factors as which can then affect a person
physically, psychologically, or both.
37. The History of Stress
The term “stress” emerged out of the field of engineering to describe the
actual psycological strain put on a structure. In the mid-1930s, the paper “A
Syndrome Produced by Diverse Nocuous Agents” was published which
discussed experiments on rats who were given “acute non-specific nocuous
agents," or, “stressors," which included exposure to cold, surgical injury,
spinal shock, excessive muscular exercise, or sub-lethal drug administration.
Selye's discovery
In his investigation, Selye (1936) discovered that after a rat was exposed to
a stressor, a typical “syndrome” appeared which was not related to the
physical damage done by the stressor. it seemed the brain structures
responsible for the production of the organism’s growth ceased to function.
Later, that typical syndrome was called “Stress”.
41. GROUP ACTIVITY: Identifying Hazards In The Workplace
Instruction: In the area assigned to your group, list all the hazards that you can identify
and explain it correctly.
Group 1: School Lobby/Hallway
Group 2: Classroom
Group 3: Comfort Rooms
Procedure:
Imagine the place assigned to you and identify three (3) hazards that you can see.
Classify these hazards either. (biological, chemical, physical, ergonomic, psychological)
Give examples of the harm/risk that these hazards may cause.
43. PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
Performance Level
YES NO NA
1. Were the things/practices/materials seen can really cause harm?
1. Were the examples of hazard/s caused by these
things/practices/materials correct?
1. Were these hazards classified correctly?

46. Why do we have to identify and classify the
different workplace hazards?
47. identification of
hazards is the first

Management.

48. How can we practice the occupational health
and safety procedures by identifying the
different hazards in the workplace?
49. How can we practice the occupational health and safety
procedures by identifying the different hazards in the
workplace?
Have a Safety Culture in the Workplace.
Offer Safety Training.
Provide the Proper Safety Tools and PPE’s.
50. Instruction: Identify what workplace hazard is being described in each
statement.
1. ______________________ includes electricity, machinery, equipment, and other physical
injuries.
2. ______________________ includes chemical substances such as acids or poisons and
those that could lead to fire or explosion, cleaning agents, dusts and fumes from
various processes such as welding.
3. ______________________ includes bacteria, viruses, mold, mildew, insects, vermin, and
animals.
4. ______________________ includes workplace stressors arising from a variety of sources.
5. ______________________ includes working for long periods in an awkward position or
having to make the same motions over and over again.

52. Agreement
Give at least five (5) hazards that you can see
at home and what will you do to prevent it
from harming you and your family?
