15. The Characteristics of God
● Christians believe that God created the world and the universe.
● They believe that God looks after the world and everything on it.
● Christians believe that God has four powers to do this:
○ Omniscient - which means all-knowing. God knows everything that has
happened and everything that will happen.
○ Omnipotent - which means all-powerful. God can do anything that he
wants to do.
○ Omnipresent - which means all-present. God is everywhere all the time.
○ Benevolent - which means all-loving. God loves and cares for everyone.
16. Powers of God Meaning How would this affect a Christian?
Omniscient Omniscient
means
knowing
everything
Christians believe this all-knowing power goes
beyond what we can imagine as humans. God
knows if someone loses a single hair, and
knows people's thoughts before they speak
them.
Omnipotent Refers to the
idea that God
is all-powerful.
It states how God created the world in six days
and rested on the seventh. This shows them
how strong God is and how he is tough.
Omnipresent It means
all-present
The word Omnipresent means he’s present
everywhere so it affects the christians that
they can’t hide anything from him.
Benevolent It means all
loving which
means that he
loves everyone.
God being benevolent means he loves everyone
equally. This means that the christians would feel
safe wherever they go because they know God
loves them.
17. The Presence of God
● There are two beliefs about the presence of God.
● Some Christians believe that God is ‘immanent’. This means
that God is near and is in the world and acts within it.
● Other Christians believe that God is ‘Transcendent’. This
means that God is separate and is outside of this world and is
more powerful than we can comprehend.
● There are issues with thinking of God in both ways.
18.
19. The Holy Trinity
● Christians believe that God is made up of three aspects.
● These are not three separate gods, but one God working in
three ways.
● Christianity is a monotheism, which means Christians believe
in one God. So it would be wrong to say that there are three
gods in the Trinity.
● They are also known as the ‘Three Persons of the Trinity’ or
the ‘3-in-1 God’.
The Three Persons are:
1. God the Father - who made the world. He is the Creator.
2. God the Son - Jesus Christ who came to save mankind. He is
the Redeemer.
3. Holy Spirit - this is the faith and belief that is inside all
Christians. It is the Sanctifier.
20. God the Son
● Christian believe that one aspect of the Holy Trinity is
God the Son.
● This is Jesus Christ whom Christian believe lived over
2000 years ago in modern day Israel.
● God the Son is the second person of the Trinity in
Christian nature. The doctrine (belief) of the Trinity
identifies Jesus as the incarnation of God, united in
essence but distinct in person with regard to God the
Father and God the Holy Spirit.
● Through his death and resurrection, Jesus atoned for
the sins of humanity, allowing them to be reconciled
with God. Christians believe that Christ is the only way
to salvation, and that salvation will be for those who
believe, as well as those who do not believe
● God the Son refers to Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
For Catholics, this is Jesus as God in human form,
who was sent to save humanity. He was sacrificed for
the sins of humankind, which allows them to be
reunited with God after death.
Holy Spirit
● The holy spirit is important to the
Christians because it shows them how
powerful and how much energy God
has.
● God the Holy Spirit helps Christians to
understand the idea that God is always
present in the world. This is a source of
strength to most Christians as they feel
God is always with them.
● The Holy Spirit is God; He’s part of the
Trinity. That means that we can have a
relationship with Him, just as Jesus did.
● The Holy Spirit isn’t a force to be used,
a ghost, or even the manifestations that
we see. He is a person, He
communicates, and He has feelings.
