2. Response to Brief I knew what I wanted to do instantly when the brief was given. I decided to figure out which genre style magazine I wanted to do and then research what target audience would fit that criteria. I used to buy pop magazines when I was around the age of 13-15, so I can relate to what I wanted when I was looking for a magazine which caught my eye.
3. Front Cover ● Colour theme: Pink and white (represents that it is for girls as the public associate pink as being a ‘girly’ colour) and the white contrasts the pink. ● Language should be easy to read and understand (do not over complicate) ● Centre image will be of Pixie Lott (young, popular, musically talented singer) ● Masthead – ‘Glitz’ (Relates to fame, young and fun) ● Similar to ‘We love pop’ magazine currently on the teen music market ● Sub-headings have to be appealing and relate to celebrities popular to young girls ● Music is for the young target audience (teenage girls) ● Like the ‘we love pop’ magazine, the target audience shall be 13-15 year olds
4. Contents Page ● Be friendly towards the reader ● Bold headings ● Quotes from celebrities (e.g. Cher Lloyd “people don’t even know me, yet judge me. They are morons!”) ● Have continuous logo on contents page ● Don’t overload the amount of text – have a balance of text and images together ● Pop representation images – posing, natural, smiley ● Perhaps ‘Dear Reader’ letter or notice to make it more personal ● Clear number headings on page
5. Double Page Spread ● Clear page numbers ● Bright colours to attract reader ● Include prize give away to interest the reader ● Box shape with ‘WIN!...VIP tickets to see Taylor Swift!’ ● What other celebrity opinions are – can influence and interest the reader ● Make the font fun and interesting, but at the same time, make it look effective and continuous so it doesn’t look completely random and fits in with the layout. ● Make images interesting (photo shoot style) ● Interview a specific celebrity or band (Pixie Lott)
6. Genre ● I have chosen to do a pop genre music magazine, which targets young, teenage girls. (13-15 year olds). ● I have chosen this because it is popular in marketing. The layout of pop magazines are usually bright, bold and include a lot of images to attract the target audience. This is why I chose this specific genre, as it represents the mainstream world and the target audience is often parents who are of a middle class and willing to purchase the magazine for their teenage daughters. ● Simple things such as language style show this. The masthead of magazines represent this. I have chosen to call my magazine ‘Glitz’, you can easily recognize the genre from this.
