This document provides an overview of resources, including:
- Types of resources are natural resources, human-made resources, and human resources. Natural resources can be renewable like solar and wind or non-renewable like coal.
- Resources are conserved through reducing consumption, recycling, reusing, and ensuring renewable resource use is sustainable.
- Conserving resources is important to ensure future availability and sustain life on Earth.

3. INTRODUCTION
• Mona and Raju were helping Amma to clean their house.
• Mona said that all the things are very useful. Amma said that they are important .
Resources Anything that can be used to satisfy a need is a resource
Water ,electricity, rickshaw,
egetable and textbook
Utility Makes an object a resource
a. How does something become a
resource?
b. How can resources become
economically
valuable with time?
a. Things become resource when they have a
value
b. Home remedies, if they are patented and
sold, they could become economically
valuable
5. Time and
Technology
Needs of
the people
Ideas
Knowledge
Inventions and discoveries
The discovery of fire led to the practice of cooking.
Invention of the wheel resulted in development of
transport
The technology to create hydroelectricity has turned
energy in fast flowing water into an important resource
6. TYPES OF RESOURCES
NATURAL
RESOURCES
HUMAN MADE
RESOURCES
HUMAN
RESOURCE
Drawn from nature
without modification
e.g air, water,soil
Natural substances become
resources only when their
original form has been changed
e.g bridges, roads
People make the best use
of nature to create more
Resources by their knowledge,
skill and technology e.g
education
and health
7. • NATURAL RESOURCES
RENEWABLE
RESOURCES
NON-RENEWABLE
RESOURCES
Those resources which get
renewed or replenished quickly
They are in unlimited stock
E.g solar and wind energy
Those resources which have a limited stock
Once the stock is exhausted it may take
thousands of years to be renewed
E.g coal, petroleum and natural gas
THE DISTRIBUTION OF NATURAL RESOURCES DEPENDS ON TERRAIN, CLIMATE AND ALTTUDE
8. CONSERVING RESOURCES
• Mona dreamt that all the water on the earth had dried up and the tree cut down.
Asked her mother can this really happen
• Mother replied that if we car not careful, the resources become very scarce.
RESOURCES
CONSERVATION
Using resources carefully
Giving time to get renewed
SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT Balancing the need to use resources
Conserve them for the future
9. • WAYS OF CONSERVING RESOURCES:
• Reducing consumption, recycling and reusing
• Mona and Raju started to make packet and shopping bags out of newspapers,
discarded clothes and baskets from bamboo stick and decided to give to every
family
• Jessy promised not to waste paper because many trees are cut down to make it
• Mustafa shouted that he’ll not waste electricity which comes from water and coal
• Asha said “ Every drop of water is precious”

10. OUT DUTY TO ENSURE THAT :
ALL USES OF
RENEWABLE
RESOURCES ARE
SUSTAINABLE
DIVERSITY OF LIFE
IS CONSERVED

ENVIRONMENTAL
SYSTEM IS MINIMISED
