A research study reveals that dispensing
convenience is a main driver behind
consumer satisfaction. This leads to a surge
in Weatherchem’s new product initiatives to
reach new market segments. During this time,
the Flapper gains traction throughout the caps
and closures sector – and becomes a standard
in the spices/seasonings industry.

GRINDER NR® PACKAGING SYSTEM
Weatherchem creates the Grinder
NR® packaging system for spices and
seasonings. The Grinder NR® features
a non-removable grinder and a non-
refillable PET container. Weatherchem
begins participation in the GMA-Safe
(Supplier Audit for Food Excellence)
Program this year. The GMA-Safe
program was created by a diverse
group of leading food companies that
collectively designed a comprehensive
food quality and safety audit system.
This program provides suppliers with
a consistent evaluation of a company’s
entire food quality and safety system.

FLAPMATE®
ENTERS THE
MARKET
Consumer research led to the introduction of the FlapMate®
closure, a single back-hinge flip-top, enabling easy opening
and closing with one hand. The new FlapMate closure has
a contemporary look for maximum shelf impact and a one-
piece design for production line efficiency.
2007
NutraGen II® closure, ideally suited to the Vitamins,
Minerals and Supplements (VMS) market, has
an easy-to-open and dispense design, offering
convenience for health conscious consumers.
It proves a popular seller, as the market moves
rapidly to serve an aging population drawn to
convenient dispensing packages.

ITS PRODUCT
PORTFOLIO WITH
LIQUIFLAPPER®
LiquiFlapper® quickly becomes the preferred plastic cap for
controlled dispensing of pourable products – no glugging,
no mess, and a variety of orifice sizes provide packagers
with just the right solution for pouring thick or thin liquids.
Weatherchem announces its sustainability
initiative, which focuses mainly on waste
reduction and energy efficiency. Since
2006, Weatherchem has been achieving
cost savings and limiting its environmental
impact by reducing scrap, eliminating
wasted materials and cutting down
on energy usage. The company hosts
regular “rapid improvement” events to
generate ideas from employees on how
to reduce waste, identify opportunities
to re-use materials and other initiatives.
Scrap has been reduced by 50 percent,
new hydraulic presses have been added
which consume 35-45% less energy and
800,000 fewer gallons of water per year. An
environmentally-friendly chiller is installed
that cools water while using 40-45% less
energy than prior systems.

A recent survey from Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute found
that nearly 70 percent of American manufacturing companies have a moderate
to severe shortage of available, qualified workers. On February 6, The Manufac-
turing Institute will recognize 160 recipients of the STEP Awards at a reception
in Washington, D.C. The STEP Awards program will highlight each honoree’s
story, including their leadership and accomplishments in manufacturing.

Since 2006, Weatherchem has been achieving cost savings and limiting its environmental impact by reducing scrap, eliminating wasted materials and cutting down on energy usage. The company hosts regular “rapid improvement” events to generate ideas from employees on how to reduce waste, identify opportunities to re-use materials and other initiatives. Scrap has been reduced by 50 percent, new hydraulic presses have been added which consume 35-45% less energy and 800,000 fewer gallons of water per year.
