3. Why do we need paints?
They may be used for one or more of the
following purposes:
To protect the underlying surface by exclusion
of the atmosphere, moisture and insects.
To provide a decorative easily maintained
surface.
To provide light- and heat-reflecting properties.
To give special effects;

5. Further Explanation:

Paint has gone through countless
Changes since its inception.

7. 1. Solvents:
Solvents are one of the three components
of paints. They are petroleum-based
chemicals which dissolve the pigment and
binding agent for application.
7
8. 2.Pigments:
A pigment is a material that changes
the color of reflected or transmitted light as
the result of wavelength-selective
absorption.
8
9. 3.Binder:
Binder refers to substances that hold the
particles of pigment together in paint. All
paints include a binder of some
sort because this is what keeps the
pigment in place after the paint dries.

10. 4.Additives:
Enamel paint sometimes is mixed
with varnish or urethane to improve its
shine and hardness.
10
11. Production of paint in paint manufacturing plant:
Production of paint is seven step process and
five type of machines are use it.
Process no 1:
• Obtaining a raw material
(resin ,pigments ,additives etc)
11
12. Process no 2
• Mixing of raw material
Machine use for this purpose is called premixer
12
13. Process no 3
• Milling
Machine use for this purpose is called
sand mill

22. Applications or uses:
paints used for
Aluminum paints Painting Metal
roofs,machinery,tower
Storage tank
Anti corrosive paints Preservation of structural steel
work against acid fumes and
adverse weather conditions
Asbestos paints Fire proof paints
Bituminous paints Black in color, used to paint
exterior brick work
Bronze paints Used in radiators
Cellulose paints Restricted to painting,cars,ships
and airplanes
Enamel paints Water proof, applicable on wood
Distemper paints Most Suitable for plasterd
surfaces,whitewash surfaces of
interior walls

24. Air spray:
Air spraying is fantastic for industrial paint
jobs. An air sprayer uses air to atomise the
paint into a mist or fine spray.
24
25. Airless spray:
An airless sprayer atomises the paint at a
much higher pressure than an air sprayer.
It’s great for spraying large industrial areas
quickly and more efficiently than an air
sprayer

26. BY Roller:
If you plan on painting a flat surface such
as a floor or wall, a roller can come in
handy. Using a roller to apply paint allows
you transfer paint efficiently and quickly
26
27. Paint brushing:
Paintbrushes come in such a wide variety of styles,
shapes, angles and even bristles, that there’s one for
every task. Small paint brushes are excellent for smaller
details
