INTRODUCTION 
Assessments are a vital part of determining student achievement. There are 
used to determine the knowledge gained by students and to determine if 
adjustments need to be made to either the teaching or learning process. 
Online assessment is the process used to measure certain aspects of 
information for a set purpose where the assessment is delivered via computer 
connection to a network must often the assessment is some type of educational test. 
Online assessments are used by organisations, schools and individual to 
determine attributes like personality types, learning style, communication skill, 
Management style and even iq measurement. There many kinds of online learning 
assessment as there different aspects of a person’s psych that some one feels the 
need to measure. 
MEANING OF ONLINE ASSESSMENT 
Different types of online assessment contain elements of one or more of the 
following components, depending on the assessments purpose. Formative, 
diagnostic or summative, instant and detailed feedback as well as flexibility of 
location and time are just two of the many benefits associated with online 
assessments. There are many resources available that provide online assessments, 
some free of charge and others that fees or require a membership. 
Online assessment is used primarily to measure cognitive abilities, 
demonstrating what has been learned after a particular educational events has 
occurred, such as the end of an instructional unit or chapter. When assessing 
practical achieves or to demonstrate learning that has occurred over a longer period 
of time an online portfolio is often used. The first element that must be prepared 
when teaching an online course is assessment. Assessment is used to determine if 
learning is happening, to what intent and if changes need to be made. 
Online learning assessment can take the place of paper and pencil 
assessment as in the case of personality testing in business. It is also a new way of 
looking at assessment of educational goals in as online learning environment. 
Assessment is happening all the time through a verity of media including testing 
observation, modelling and performing him to utilize the information gained through 
assessment is key to both academic professional successes. 
Tools 
GATE 
Graduate aptitude test in engineering. It is a computer based standardised 
test conducted jointly by IISC and VIITS. 
GRE
Graduate record examination is a computer / paper based standardised test 
developed by educational science services. 
NTSE 
National Talent Search examination is a national level scholarship programme 
in India to identify and recognise students with high intellect and academic talent. 
SOF 
The Science Olympiad Foundation is an educational foundation and a non-profit 
organisation. 
CONCLUSION 
Online assessments have traditionally been alone through quantitative 
methods like paper and pencil examinations. To make the transition to online 
learning assessment, there must be a shift in the Para diagram of the school 
administration, faculty and students. The traditional way of looking at assessment 
need to change to incorporate new learning modalities and different learner 
behaviour.

  • 2. INTRODUCTION Assessments are a vital part of determining student achievement. There are used to determine the knowledge gained by students and to determine if adjustments need to be made to either the teaching or learning process. Online assessment is the process used to measure certain aspects of information for a set purpose where the assessment is delivered via computer connection to a network must often the assessment is some type of educational test. Online assessments are used by organisations, schools and individual to determine attributes like personality types, learning style, communication skill, Management style and even iq measurement. There many kinds of online learning assessment as there different aspects of a person’s psych that some one feels the need to measure. MEANING OF ONLINE ASSESSMENT Different types of online assessment contain elements of one or more of the following components, depending on the assessments purpose. Formative, diagnostic or summative, instant and detailed feedback as well as flexibility of location and time are just two of the many benefits associated with online assessments. There are many resources available that provide online assessments, some free of charge and others that fees or require a membership. Online assessment is used primarily to measure cognitive abilities, demonstrating what has been learned after a particular educational events has occurred, such as the end of an instructional unit or chapter. When assessing practical achieves or to demonstrate learning that has occurred over a longer period of time an online portfolio is often used. The first element that must be prepared when teaching an online course is assessment. Assessment is used to determine if learning is happening, to what intent and if changes need to be made. Online learning assessment can take the place of paper and pencil assessment as in the case of personality testing in business. It is also a new way of looking at assessment of educational goals in as online learning environment.
