NATURAL SCIENCE
ANIMAL KINGDOM
CHARACTERISTICS:
• Animals eat other living things
• They don’t make their own food
• They can be oviparous or viviparous
• Oviparous: they lay eggs
• Viviparous: they are born from the mother
• They can move
• Flying
• Walking
• Swimming
CLASIFICATION
• VERTEBRATES: They have skeleton
• INVERTEBRATES: They don’t have skeleton
INVERTEBRATES ANIMALS
There are 6 groups:
• Arthropods
• Insects
• Arachnids
• Crustacean
• Molluscs
• Echinoderms
• Jellyfish
• Sponges
• Worms
ARTHROPODS
• INSECTS: They have 6 legs
Examples: ant, butterfly, fly, mosquitoe
• ARACHNIDS: They have 8 legs
Examples: spider
• CRUSTACEAN: They have 10 legs
Examples: crab
MOLLUSCS
• They can have a shell or not
• Their body is soft and muscular
• Examples: octopus, mussel, squid, snail
ECHINODERMS
• The sea urchin and the star fish are examples of this
group
JELLYFISH
• They have jellied body and tentacles
SPONGES
• They have pores in the body
• They live in the bottom of the sea
• They don’t move
WORMS
• They have a long and soft body, with rings.
VERTEBRATES ANIMALS
There are 5 groups:
• Mammals
• Birds
• Fish
• Reptile
• Amphibian
MAMMALS
• They have HAIR in the body
• They breath by LUNGS
• They have TEETH
• They are VIVIPAROUS
• They have extremities
• LEGS
• WINGS
• FINS
BIRDS
• They have FEATHERS in the body
• They breath by LUNGS
• They have BEAK
• They are OVIPAROUS
• They have LEGS and WINGS
FISH
• They have SCALES in the body
• They breath by GILLS
• They live in the water
• They are OVIPAROUS
• They have FINS
REPTILES
• They have SCALES in the body
• They breath by LUNGS
• They live in the water and in the land
• They are OVIPAROUS
• They have 4 LEGS
AMPHIBIAN
• They have NUDE SKIN in the body
• They breath by LUNGS
• They live in the water and in the land
• They are OVIPAROUS
• They have 4 LEGS
FUNGI KINGDOM
FUNGI KINGDOM
• They eat rests of other living things
• They can’t move
• There are 3 groups
• MUSHROOMS
• MOLDS
• YEAST
ALGAE KINGDOM
ALGAE KINGDOM
• They are similar to PLANTS
• They create their own food
• They don’t have ROOTS and STEM, only LEAVES
• They live in the water: salt and fresh water
BACTERIA KINGDOM
BACTERIA KINGDOM
• They are very small
• You need a MICROSCOPE to see them.
• They are everywhere: in the floor, in the air, in the water,
in our body
• Some of them are GOOD: like the bacterias to make the
yogurth
• Some of them are BAD: like the viruses
QUESTIONS
• What’s the name of an animal which lay eggs?
• How can an animal move?
• What’s the name of the animals which doesn’t have skeleton?
• How many groups of invertebrates animals are there?
• Which groups of invertebrate animals can have a shell?
• Which groups of invertebrates have rings in the body?
• In which group of invertebrates is the spider?
• Which group is microscopic?
• Which 3 groups are in the fungi kingdom?
• Which group is similar to plants?
ACTIVITIES
1. Circle the invertebrate animals of the photocopy.
2.Write in which group of invertebrate animals is each
animal
ACTIVITIES
• Write two characteristics of the groups of ALGAE,
FUNGI and BACTERIA
JOURNAL
• Choose one kingdom and write three sentences about it
