Editorial of the Month
Diwali Issue
Dear Readers,
I am sure, that, you will be proud of the fact that 28th
issue
of Management Digest is reaching you well in time on the
occasion of Diwali – Festival of Light.
I am reminded of an advertisement of Philips company
published long back : I recollect the copy : “Only India
understands what is light because India has a festival of light”.
I also remember that when I had gone to USA in the year
2002 or 3, I received an email saying that if you feel that Diwali
festival should be officially celebrated in Whitehouse USA, we
have to send at least 1,00,000 signatures supporting the view. I
remember to have immediately responded favourably and as all
of us know, Diwali is now celebrated in Whitehouse as official
festival of Government of United States of America.
These points need appreciated for two reasons –
A)Creative & Innovative approach of Philips India to make
an emotional appeal to Indian customers and
B)Broad and open – mindedness of United states
Government.
Friends, all of you are joining in large number for National
Conference on Business Ethics scheduled on Dec 2 and 3,
2015 at Amity Global Business School. All the supports are
necessary to make the conference a grand success.
Bye – Happy Diwali and Happy reading.

Event of the Month
Welcome home Geeta
A shy, frail 23 year old Geeta, wearing a pink salwar-kameez and dupatta,
arrived at New Delhi’s IGI airport on the 26th
October 2015. She was received with a
warm welcome by the officials of India and Pakistan, media persons and a large
cheering crowd. She was returning to India almost after a decade.
Geeta had accidentally crossed over to Pakistan in
2004. She was spotted by Pakistani rangers wandering in
no man’s land. On realising that she was dumb & deaf,
they handed her over to the Edhi foundation, a well-
known social welfare organization in Pakistan. Smt.
Bilqnis Edhi, one of the founders of the foundation
observed that the girt touched the feet of people and
folded her hands in a ‘namaste.’ As such she inferred that
the girl must be an Indian and a Hindu. Since her real
name could not be ascertained, she was names as Geeta. It is remarkable that the
foundation has looked after her all these years, protecting her & her beliefs.
The efforts to trace her roots in India got a momentum on the release of a film
Bajarangi Bhaijann, starring Salman Khan, the popular hero of Bollywood. In this film
he overcomes all the hurdles and even at the
stake of his life, unites a small dumb & deaf
girl, separated from her mother while on a visit
to India, with her family in Pakistan.
When Geeta’s story was learnt on TV,
the government machinery in both the
countries took active interest in her return to
India, her homeland. This finally resulted in her
much discussed homecoming.
As on today, four families have claimed Geeta as their daughter. Their claims
will be decided through DNA tests. Meanwhile she will be housed in a social
organization in Indore.
The homecoming has been hailed by the people from both the countries along
with the governement functionaries. Edhi family certainly deserves all the
appreciation showered on it.
It is a good moment for both the countries and sends out a good message.
