2. AMITYVILLE II: THE
POSSESSION
Date : 1982
Genre : Horror
Director : Damiano Damiani
3. DECONSTRUCTION
The film starts with a black screen which fades to an extreme
long shot of the house with a “For Sale” sign in the foreground.
The camera then pans left very slowly to reveal more of the
house.
4. DECONSTRUCTION
Non diegetic piano music begins to play in the background and
opening credits appear on the screen in white. The first name is
the name of the film producer “Dino De Laurentiis”, followed by
the film title “Amityville II: The Possession”.
5. DECONSTRUCTION
The camera continues to pan slowly whilst more credits are
shown. Once the side of the house is compositioned in the centre
of the shot the camera begins to zoom in on a window. These
slow and continuous camera movements build tension and make
the film more scary for the viewer.
6. DECONSTRUCTION
It then cuts to a car coming into the drive way and we can hear
diegetic sounds including talking and the noise from the car.
7. DECONSTRUCTION
The camera follows the car as it drives past and we see it pulling
up outside the house. The “For Sale” sign in the opening shot of
the film now reads “Sold”.
