Canon radio advert analysis
1. Canon Radio Advert Analysis
After listening to this radio advert, I took notes and analysed different elements of the
advert. Straight away we recognise that the style of the advert is fun and informative. We
hear a males voice, maybe aged around 30 –40 speaking clearly and upbeat about the radio
channel and the cannon camera.
We realise when he talks he is advertising to the audience a competition. The
competition is to win a free canon camera if you answer a certain question correctly. This
shows the advert is promoting sales and special offers to the audience which increases
audience interaction. The audience feels involved whilst listening to the channel.
This advert is also raising brand awareness. As its advertising a canon camera to the
public, persuading them by the man’s choice of words to go out and buy this camera. We
notice it must be a Christmas advert as in the background the sound effects we can hear are
Christmas jingle bells, a famous sound which we recognise straight away. This tells us as its
Christmas times people are obviously going to be interested in finding out information as
they can buy it as a gift for a loved one, and also by the audience entering the competition
there’s a chance they can win this amazing camera for free. The man who speaks explains
the different great parts of the camera; he explains what it can be used for and how perfect
it would be for you. People will be anchored into this offer as Christmas is a known
expensive time of year. These sound effects that are included aren’t loud; they are very faint
so the audience can still clearly listen to what the man is saying.
This advert is also advertising the radio channel itself, as if they do such good
competitions for the public people will want to listen and hear there next big competition
offers. I think audience interaction is a good element to use when creating a radio advert as
it makes the audience feel more involved. We notice further into the advert, a unique selling
point as a lady then joins in and tells us what type of camera it is, how good it is and is
simply attracting us more and more to enter the competition. The tone of both the male
and females voice is quite mysterious and intriguing; this is good as it makes the audience
want to listen more.
There isn’t any information included where the audience can find and purchase this
camera if they don’t win the competition, this would have been useful as it would be
promoting Canon more and advertising that particular camera. The advert also doesn’t
provide any humorous moments which could of made the advert more fun and upbeat on a
whole. I found it was quiet dull. The competition itself is a good opportunity for the
audience, and is a huge factor if audience interaction. Overall I think this advert was good
but there is room for improvement. Raising the brand awareness and also including a
competition at this certain time of year which is Christmas time is very appropriate and
helpful for the audience.
