TITLE:ASSESMENT OF VISITORS HANDLING AT AIRPORT: A CASE STUDY
OF MWALIMU NYERERE INTERNATION AIRPORT-DAR ES SALAAM

INTRODUCTION
In today’s economic climate, airports are a vital
source of income for a country’s economy.
 Air transportation plays a central role in developing
Tanzania tourism industry
Development of tourism would never have been the
same without air transportation.
Tanzania tourism cannot be developed without a
functioning air transportation system. More than 80
percent of international tourists travel to Tanzania
through air transportation.
INTRODUCTION CONT…
On the other hand it is one and only channel that links
remote tourist destinations to capital city and other
parts. This shows how vital the air transportation is for
Tanzania tourism industry.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Air transportation is becoming more and more popular
among the travelers who want to arrive at destinations
quickly. (Cooper, Fletcher, Fyall, Gilbert & Wanhill
2008, 419.)
The development of air transport activity worldwide
has increased the demand for airport services and the
need for more efficient processes of servicing visitors/
passengers or luggage.
 Handling assessment is a challenging and complex
problem, which has been the focus of extensive
research,
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
General objective
To assess handling of visitors at Airport
Specific objectives
To assess arrival process of visitors at Airport.
To identify the challenges faced by visitors during
arrival time.
To analyze the perception of visitors to airport
services.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
 How are visitors handled upon their arrival and departure time
?
 What are visitors arrival processes at Airport?
 How long does visitors arrival processing takes?
 What are methods/ways used by Airport Authority to handle
visitors complaints at Airport?
 What are perceptions of visitors towards arrival proceses?
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Study area
The study will be conducted at Mwalimu Nyerere
International Airport located in Dar es salaam.
Firstly I will seek the permission from administration
of JNIA to conduct my study there.

Research Design
Research design of this study is cross-sectional study.
Respondents will be arrival visitors/ tourists at JNIA
at that time.
Sampling technique and sample size
A Sample of 60 will be selected randomly from arrival
visitors at JNIA using systematic random probability
sampling

Method of data collection
Primary data will be collected through direct
observation and face to face interview.
Secondary data will be collected from various sources
including internet journals, website, reports,
government publications and statistics and published
books.
DATA ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION
Qualitative data will be analyzed through content
analysis by coding the main themes.
The results will be presented in tables and figures or
charts.

INTRODUCTION In today’s economic climate, airports are a vital source of income for a country’s economy.  Air transportation plays a central role in developing Tanzania tourism industry Development of tourism would never have been the same without air transportation. Tanzania tourism cannot be developed without a functioning air transportation system. More than 80 percent of international tourists travel to Tanzania through air transportation.
  • 3. INTRODUCTION CONT… On the other hand it is one and only channel that links remote tourist destinations to capital city and other parts. This shows how vital the air transportation is for Tanzania tourism industry.
  • 4. PROBLEM STATEMENT Air transportation is becoming more and more popular among the travelers who want to arrive at destinations quickly. (Cooper, Fletcher, Fyall, Gilbert & Wanhill 2008, 419.) The development of air transport activity worldwide has increased the demand for airport services and the need for more efficient processes of servicing visitors/ passengers or luggage.  Handling assessment is a challenging and complex problem, which has been the focus of extensive research,
  • 5. RESEARCH OBJECTIVES General objective To assess handling of visitors at Airport Specific objectives To assess arrival process of visitors at Airport. To identify the challenges faced by visitors during arrival time. To analyze the perception of visitors to airport services.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS  How are visitors handled upon their arrival and departure time ?  What are visitors arrival processes at Airport?  How long does visitors arrival processing takes?  What are methods/ways used by Airport Authority to handle visitors complaints at Airport?  What are perceptions of visitors towards arrival proceses?
  • 7. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Study area The study will be conducted at Mwalimu Nyerere International Airport located in Dar es salaam. Firstly I will seek the permission from administration of JNIA to conduct my study there.
  • 8. METHODOLOGY CONT… Research Design Research design of this study is cross-sectional study. Respondents will be arrival visitors/ tourists at JNIA at that time. Sampling technique and sample size A Sample of 60 will be selected randomly from arrival visitors at JNIA using systematic random probability sampling
  • 9. METHODOLOGY CONT… Method of data collection Primary data will be collected through direct observation and face to face interview. Secondary data will be collected from various sources including internet journals, website, reports, government publications and statistics and published books.
  • 10. DATA ANALYSIS AND PRESENTATION Qualitative data will be analyzed through content analysis by coding the main themes. The results will be presented in tables and figures or charts.
