What is Schizophrenia?
 A chronic and severe mental disorder that affects
how a person feels, thinks, and behaves.
 Usually start between ages 16 and 30, children
rarely have schizophrenia.
 Not split personality or multiple personality.
 Causes are unclear.

Sign and Symptoms
 Three categories of symptoms: positive, negative
and cognitive.
 Positive symptoms include delusions,
hallucinations, disorganized behavior and thinking
and speech
 Negative symptoms include social withdrawal,
extreme apathy, lack initiative and emotional
flatness
 Cognitive symptoms include poor executive
functioning, trouble focusing and problems with
working memory
