Mental health affects how people think, feel and act. It is important at every stage of life from childhood through adulthood. Approximately 1 in 25 adults and 1 in 5 youth experience a mental illness each year. Common mental illnesses include anxiety disorders, depression, and ADHD. Anxiety disorders are very common and affect people of all ages. Depression can occur at any age from preschool through elderly. ADHD affects about 10% of school-aged children and causes inattention, impulsivity and hyperactivity. The causes of these conditions vary and can include genetics, medical conditions, life changes and stressors. Non-profit organizations like Mental Health America and NAMI work to promote mental health awareness, education, advocacy and recovery

their constantly disruptive
Nobody knows how ADHD happens must
the most accepted answer is that it comes
from family genetics

Anxiety
Causes : -
Panic disorder: In
addition to anxiety,
common symptoms of
panic disorders are
palpitations (feeling
your heartbeat),
dizziness, and
shortness of
breath.The doctor's
initial task is to see if
your anxiety is
caused by a medical
condition.
Depression
Causes : -
School performance, social
status, family life, sexual
orientation. Depression is an
extremely complex disease. It
occurs for a variety of reasons.
Some people experience
depression during a serious
medical illness. Others may have
depression with life changes such
as a move or the death of a loved
one. Still others have a family
history of depression.

Mental Health America (MHA) - founded in 1909,
it is the leading NGO for mental health in the
United States - MHA is committed to promote
mental health as very important because it is your
main overall well being - MHA includes prevention,
early identification, intervention for those who are
vulnerable and susceptible to mental health,
behavioural health and have recovery as a goal
MHA was founded by Clifford W. Beers who was a
former psychiatric patient. MHA have educated
millions of adults and children around America on
mental illness. They have brought down the barriers
surrounding mental health treatment making it
accessible to as many people as possible.
NAMI is the national alliance
on mental illness. It was
founded in 1979 by a group of
families. It is now one of the
largest mental health
organizations in America. As
NAMI is an NGO. Non-profit
organisation, they rely
completely on volunteers and
donations to run their
organisation. NAMI focuses
on these 4 main areas -
Educate, advocate, listen and
lead. NAMI main focus is to
educate and inform people
and raise awareness with
fundraisers and walks.
