ADVANCED SOCIAL MEDIA
Lindsay Boxberger, High Touch Technologies
IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA
 Networking opportunities (business to business, business to client, personal level)
 The latest news, events, partnerships, community service, etc.
 Branding/Presence/Availability
 Website traffic (Search Engine Optimization [SEO], advertising)
BEST BUSINESS PRACTICES
1. Balance frequent activity with RELEVANT activity
A. Silly, irrelevant or personal messages will hurt professionalism/validity
2. Be Professional
A. Structure content
 ALWAYS explain as if the user knows nothing
 Be conscious of verb tense as well as voice
 Examples:
o Good – “Today High Touch was a presenting sponsor for the
Membership Maximizer for the Wichita Chamber of Commerce.”
o Bad - “We were at the Membership Maximizer.”
o Bad - “Notification: High Touch has checked in at the
Membership Maximizer”
 Practice correct grammar
B. Photos
 Model Release forms
 Caption photos appropriately
 Consider users only seeing a single photo from an album – only because
their friend was tagged in it. Maximize the information for their
understanding.
o This idea applies to everything – not just photos
3. Strategically Interact
A. Tag/associate as much as possible
B. Use photos, videos, or any interaction as much as possible
C. Land a new client? “Like” them on Facebook and hopefully they do the same
 Follow them on Twitter, 1+/Follow them on Google+, etc.
4. Specific to LinkedIn
A. Quick statistics
 1 Million new members every week
 17.8 Million belong to groups
 1.2 million comments and posts to groups each week
 2 billion people searches annually
 1 million companies have a company page
B. Join strategic groups
 Share valuable information via your groups
 Never “sell”
 Build relationships and position your business/yourself as the subject
matter expert
C. New “Showcase Pages” vs. “Products and Services” tab
 Up to 10 total
 Followers of specific Showcases
D. Profile tips
 Make it clean, to the point, free of spelling and grammatical errors
 Use bullet points vs. paragraphs
 Use your real name
 Keep your photo professional
 Keywords/skills
E. Recommendations vs. Endorsements
