2. The assignment involved how to plan and keep up to date with a
project that was chosen to create with a given deadline, so this
is mainly a test to demonstrate our ability in managing an
independently devised project through the stages of pre-
production, production and post-production. The assignment
that I chosen to do involved in a selection of art pieces ranging
from Environment art, Character art, Weapon art and sprite art.
I believe that the assignment that I chosen for myself was a
very achievable feat to accomplish because I have created many
pieces of artwork which I think allowed me to start the project
with little holding me back from starting the planning, and later
on within project the production stage.
ASSIGNMENT
3. I think when creating the character art pieces it was pretty
straight forward to draw because of the character research I
had to help create the drawings, the early sketches I created
were mostly created from my imagination but with a few
excuses for some pieces which are shown in a presentation on
which were inspire by other characters. all of the drawings that
I created had colour added to them because I wanted to
experiment with different colours on different character
artwork, I done this to give me a better idea on what colour will
be well suited to each character.
The character art created was also aimed towards a medieval
theme so each character drawn wore all types of different
medieval oriented armours.
CHARACTER ART
4. I believe when creating my environment art pieces it took me a
while to get the right colour pallets for each piece, but as it was
created on Gamemaker mistakes could be easily corrected by
being able to instantly change the colour of certain parts of the
created environment art. The earlier environment that was
made was mainly basic pixel art which took a considerably less
amount of time to the later pieces that I designed, I tried to
make a selection of different environment art to broaden the
creativity of my which ranged from green fields to ice covered
mountain tops.
The environment in general was based towards Fantasy
medieval theme as you can see from different environments
having some form of fort or stronghold within them.
ENVIRONMENT ART
5. On to the sprite art, the sprite was created to cover characters
and weapons that could be used within a pixelated game and
because of my choice of theme the characters created were all
medieval knights donning all sorts of armour, the weapons on
the other hand were basically items that the character would
acquire and be able to use through the gameplay.
But the sprite art were only insights to what they could look like
if they were used in a game they are not actually implemented
into a game as of yet, as was stated before the characters were
all medieval knights so I tried come up with different armour
design but keeping the body proportion fairly the same which I
believe I managed to do.
SPRITE ART
6. I believe that the quality could be improved slightly on certain
pieces mostly within the character art designs, but overall I am
quite pleased with the end results of all areas of art that I have
covered which consisted of character, environment and sprite
art. However I would still make improvements of the technical
quality of my project if I were to repeat this project in particular
where I would closely at my feedback and use that to my
advantage rather taking it as a setback to improving my project.
I also think that technical quality could be improved if I
introduced different aspects within my chosen project which
could consist of actually animating my sprite to do a several
animations but I stuck with what I knew would be achievable in
the time I was given and the skills that I acquired before the
project began.
1.TECHNICAL QUALITY
7. I would say that my skills in production have always been
consistent before my FMP but now going through the process of
completing my project I think it’s safe to say that my production
skills has improved exponentially consisting of set schedules,
weekly productions diary, several focused areas of concept art
and a fairly large research source all within my FMP blog page.
These skills have developed as the project got into the later
stages of development because I was more comfortable with
flow which allowed me to create rather good consistent work
when mentioning the research and pre production stages of the
FMP.
2.PRODUCTION SKILLS
8. My original intentions for my FMP were too far fetched from
what I went with because my original idea was to be within a
group and design a 2D medieval platformer assigning different
jobs to different members of the group, my job would have been
to over the character concept art and most of the concept and
pixel art that be used In the game but in the first week of the
project we thought it would be best to ditch the project and
work on our own FMP’s, this is where I decided to work
independently rather than being in another group because I did
not want to get to the point of being halfway through production
but be delayed by other members not contributing to the group
FMP. So I focused on something that I knew I could achieve
within my deadline and could be completed with a sufficient
amount of work considering that I would be working
independently.
3.ORIGINAL INTENTIONS
9. Looking through the quick survey
that I created I mostly acquired
positive feedback from all three
pieces of art so I believe I
achieved my goal of aiming my
project towards the selected
target audience, this allows me to
ponder on what improvements I
could make with the survey which
I think would be giving an
extended amount of time for the
survey to be completed or making
several more complex questions
that need to be answered.
The questions that I created were
mainly just to see if the effort I
put into the final outcomes was
put to good use, so I believed that
if I made the questions straight
forward to answer I would get
more feedback from my survey.
4.TARGET AUDIENCE
10. I think when going through each task and judging weather not I
managed my time sensibly, I believe in this case I have because
I have strictly kept to my schedule and made sure that there
were no improvements that were needed to be made within my
schedule, I have done this mainly so I kept up to speed with my
project deadline making sure I did not go over it.
Keeping on track with my time management had allowed me to
efficiently plan out each week what I would be doing within that
week and the following one, this is where my production diary
came into play which was where I described in detail what had
been going on in that week.
Updating my production diary weekly I could judge accurately
weather or not I needed more time on an individual task.
5.TIME MANAGEMENT
11. I think going through all of the tasks I believe I have kept a
consistent level of work within the tasks and added a large
quantity of drawing when it came to presenting them on my Blog
page, this is where I went into great detail before hand with the
research where I added annotation and imagery explaining how
they help me in the long term in my FMP.
So overall I believe that I have created a consistent amount of art
pieces with a lot of research to back up the creativity of my final
outcome, and I believe that I have managed to keep an adequate
quality of my work consistent throughout the whole of my final
major project so I don’t see many issues with my work in a whole.
If I were to repeat this project again then I would follow rather
close to what I have produced but maybe give my self abit more
time to come up with more art designs to help me come up with an
improved final art outcomes.
6.OVERALL EVALUATION
