BYOT Implementation Plan for
Ninth Grade Computer Science
Catoosa County Schools BYOT and ConnectEd Link:
Catoosa County Schools BYOT Policy
Catoosa County Public Schools Digital Learning Initiative
Selected Platform:
For my classroom Windows and Google Chrome are the selected platforms
for students to learn Computer Science and Digital Technology. My
classroom is equipped with computers which utilize Windows 10 in my
Computer Science Lab. Catoosa County Schools, including my high
school, use the Google Apps Suite as students in my school are issued
a Chromebook to do all school work following our counties digital
learning initiative. Every student in the school has access to the
internet and their own computer. The Apps provided by Google such as
Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Slides are also easily accessed
by students on their own personal tech devices such as their
smartphones for quick and easy access when away from school. The ease
with which students have access to their saved information using
Google Drive allows students to easily and seamlessly continue working
on projects or homework from home or any area where they can access
the internet. I also employ Google Classroom as a way to provide
information and tasks to all my students and classes, this is an
additional way for students to stay connected and easily share work at
any time. The use of PC’s and Windows is a decision made to allow
students to use the most up to date and industry approved software by
the CTAE department.
Student Technology Devices:
Each student, grades 3-12 in the Catoosa County School district will
have access to a Chromebook which will be provided by the school
system, with 9th-12th grade students being allowed to take their
personal Chromebooks home, this includes my ninth grade students. A
Chromebook is a laptop type device which runs Google’s Chrome
operating system and is an excellent, internet ready, device which
allows students access to classroom resources without needing to fund
these devices on their own. This allows students to control their pace
of learning whether at school or at home. Any work created at home can
easily be submitted to Google Classroom for grading by the teacher.
Additionally, my students are provided PC’s for all classwork in my
classroom computer lab. Each computer is especially equipped to
maximize resources and to easily meet necessary requirements in a
programming/computer science classroom. The school also provides all
students with a Google Account which is approved and set up by the
school system which provides them easy access to Apps, Cloud Services,
and email for school use at home or in school. It is also necessary to
always have access to PC’s and Windows in my Computer Science lab due
to the elaborate and technical software used in class to program and
code such as Unity Design Software.
Grouping of Students:
My classroom is especially equipped to allow students to work in
stations or on individual PC’s. When students are working on a group
project they have access to seating in areas which easily allows for
collaboration of students in groups of up to four students per group.
However, each student also has access to their own personal PC when
working in class. There is no difficulty with students not having
access to a device. They are also easily able to access their
Chromebooks when and if they are necessary for an assignment in class.
However, if a student is in a group for a project, they are still
required to submit their own work, through Google Classroom, which
they can access through their Chromebook, PC, or personal device. This
allows for maximum flexibility in the Computer Science Lab.
