ASQA Report June 2017: Report on issue relating to unduly short training:
Findings: “short course duration” as a systematic risk across the VET sector
“While time is not the only proxy for acquiring skills in a system based on competency
training, it can be a strong indicator of a high risk that the competencies have not
been achieved.
ASQA recommendations for the way forward to improve the quality of VET
outcomes
1. Set a consistent definition of “amount of training” across nationally recognised
training
2. Ensure that industry risks are proactively addressed
3. Allow industry, to set specific training and assessment delivery requirements,
including course duration requirements in TP’s.
