This document defines and provides examples of the eight parts of speech in English: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections. Nouns are names of people, places, things, or ideas. Pronouns are used as substitutes for nouns. Verbs express actions or states of being. Adjectives modify nouns or pronouns. Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Prepositions show relationships between nouns or pronouns and other words. Conjunctions connect words or groups of words. Interjections express emotions.

2. NOUNS
Definition: Are name of person, place, animals, things, or an idea.
Examples: Mr. John Wise, school, books, dog

3. PRONOUNS
Definition: Are words use as substitute to a noun.
Examples: I, you, he, she, it, they, etc.
She is going to school.They are playing. He is writing.

4. VERBS
Definition: Are words that expresses action or state of being.
Examples: reading, jumping, singing, run, etc.
He is reading the newspaper. The girl is singing. He is running fast.

5. ADJECTIVES
Definition: Are words use to modify a noun or a pronoun.
Examples: old, lovely, red, fat, etc.
A lovely flower. The woman with a red dress.Both Grandma and
Grandpa are old.

6. ADVERBS
Definition: Are words use to modify a verb, an adjective, or an adverb itself.
Examples: carefully, early, everyday, etc.
It rained early in the morning.Ana carefully brushes
her teeth.
He goes to school everyday.

7. PREPOSITION
Definition: Are words that show relationship of a noun or a pronoun to another word.
Examples: under, across, on, between, etc.
There is coffee on the table.She help the old woman
walk across the street.
There are many kinds of

8. CONJUNCTION
Definition: Are words use to connect words or group of words.
Examples: and, either…or, although, both…and, etc.
Both Leo and Sarah are studying. Mama and Papa loved each other.

9. INTERJECTION
Definition: Are words that expresses emotions.
Examples: ouch!, alas!, hooray!, yuck!, etc.
Yuck! The food tastes bad.Hooray! We’re going on a trip.Ouch! My knee hurts.
