Learning car driving examples of how do we learn
Uncon/incomp: we don’t know what we don’t know (when we thought we can drive)
Con/incomp: now we know that we don’t know (how t drive) after hitting a car or not able to function it properly
Con/comp: after starting to properly learn (through different tools/ways). We know how to do it but we have to be always alert to make it right (training)
Uncon/comp: with a lot of practice, it becomes a basic skill/muscle that you use without even thinking about it (practice)
Now its time to bust the Myth around how do we develop
70-20-10 rule the most effective guiding model for development based on research and our experience as leaders
ONLY 10% of how we learn is through training, courses, certificate. We sure need to start learning something we don’t know about (like car driving example) but its just a stepping stone towards development. Research says that 50% of trainings are lost after 1 week of it and 90% lost after a month if not transferred into practice !!
20% of our development comes from how to leverage our network, how do we learn from others. This can be you coach, boos, mentor, peer or role model. Every surrounding is a development opportunity in a way. Recently bloggers, influencers and ted talks are a good source of learning & development too. Ask questions, listen o people advice and analyze/trust mentors opinion. Chose mentor per development subject not everyone can mentor in everything. Surround yourself with the right people and be sure you are in the right path to development
70% of how we develop is in practice!!in job learning, stretch assignments, new projects, special tasks. Also extracurricular activities like joining charity, rotary or any active groups that can support your developmental direction
