3. Plot
Penelope, wife of king Odysseus bore a child named Telemachus. Odysseus was so
happy that time for he has been blessed by the gods with a son. The child haven`t
reached one year old yet when the king left home to join the expedition against the
Trojans which is led by king Agamemnon. During the years in Trojan war, Achilles
fought with him but Achilles died soon enough. The Greeks won the battle after 10
years. After the war, Odysseus defied Poseidon, god of the wild sea. He did not realize
that the god was in favor with him. Poseidon got mad at him so it made him suffer.
While on their journey towards Ithaca, they saw nothing but thick fogs. At last, they
saw a land and they eventually went to it. They entered a cave and ate cheese inside.
Later, they found out that the cave belongs to Polyphemus, the one-eyed giant Cyclops
who ate two of the crew members. For king Odysseus and his companions to escape,
they have thought of a way to blind the giant so he will open the door. They have
succeeded but Poseidon got even mad for what they have done since Polyphemus is
the god`s youngest son.
As they kept on sailing, Odysseus stopped to fetch water for them to drink. This time,
he met Aeolus, god of the winds who put much winds in a bag and gave it to Odysseus.
The wind god told him not to open the bag until they reach home. The god helped them
to sail directly to Ithaca. The men were so curious about what`s inside the bag. They
thought it was treasure. For once, they saw Ithaca but one of the crews opened the bag
while Odysseus was having a good nap. As they opened it, the winds blew up which
caused a great storm and blew their ship away from Ithaca. They are lost now.
In an island where they wish to find food, some of the crew were turned into animals.
Odysseus saw his crews as animals and he met Circe to have them back. On his way
through Circe`s palace, Hermes gave him something to eat so he wouldn`t turn into an
animal after meeting the goddess. The king slept with her and the crew members took a
good rest for 5 days inside which is equivalent to 5 years outside her kingdom. Circe
told him to go the Underworld so he could talk to Teiresias and speak about his fate.
Odysseus hurries and goes to Hades and found out on his way that his mother ended
her own life for he can no longer wait for the return of Odysseus.
From the Underworld, the men reached a land where there is a three-headed
creature that eats them. As they exit the cave, the waters suddenly opened and
swallowed the crews including the ship, except Odysseus. Now he is alone. He was
4. carried by winds into Calypso`s island and stayed there for more years as she thought
that she can make Odysseus as her husband. But Zeus was against this because it is
not the fate of the king.
From Calypso`s island, the wild sea brought Odysseus to the land of Phaecia. He
met the king who provided him a ship and stuff to Ithaca. But the men who go with
Odysseus betrayed him. They stole the ship and left Odysseus in the shores of the
familiar land. He found his old home where Eumaeus took care of the sheeps. This was
the moment when he met his son.
Wondering if Penelope have been loyal to him, Athena transformed him into an old
beggar only Telemachus could know him. This is for him to witness what the suitors
have been trying to do while in their palace and how Penelope have longed for his
husband to return.
As Odysseus returned home still disguised, he was treated poorly by the suitors and
other guests. The time came, Odysseus stringed his bow and brought back his
appearance. He and his son killed all of the suitors who tried to steal his kingdom. King
Odysseus met Penelope and they had a happy ending together.
4. Conflict
The problem in the story was when Odysseus disobeyed Poseidon instead of
thanking the god. Another problem also is when the king blinded Polyphemus, son of
Poseidon which made the god mad and decide to let Odysseus suffer on his way to
Ithaca.
5. Climax
The climax of the story aroused when Odysseus reached home. He was in disguise
so the suitors couldn`t identify him. He was trreated poorly by the men. Time came
when it was time for Penelope to choose one of them in one condition. They should
string Odysseus`s bow. Even his son cant`t do it. In the end, the lost but have returned
king was able to string his bow and killed the suitors with the help of Telemachus.
6. Resolution or denoument
The resolution takes place when he killed all the suitors and finally embraced
Penelope in his arms. He finally had his world and his love with him. Together they live
happily after not seeing for about 20 years.
II. Summary
Oddyseus, king of Ithaca went to join the Trojan war for 10 years. Upon his return,
Poseidon made him suffer and made it longer for him to reach home. He had wandered
and was even lost. He met other gods who helped him, some of them cursed him. He
lost his crew members and his ship so he has to float endlessly in Poseidon`s sea
where there is rage. He wondered if when will he die. But it is not his fate to die. His fate
is to suffer for he had defied the god. For 20 years, he had eventually reached home
5. and killed all the men who tried to steal his kingdom and take his place. In the end, king
Odysseus and his family lived together.

1. What does the movie teach me?
The movie taught me not to defy the gods. Some gods helped us through our
journey so we should be thankful enough and honor them. It also taught me that there
are circumstances that would define how brave are we to fight those battles despite the
sufferings we may encounter. Odysseus displayed a great courage that even his crew
were so loyal to him. Besides, what people need these days is real courage that would
take them to where they dreamed to be.
2. To whom will I recommend the movie?
I will recommend the movie to everyone so that they will be able to witness the
journey of Odysseus and how he had survived despite the sufferings made for him by
Poseidon, the god of the wild sea.
3. If I would like to end the story, what would it be?
If I would like to end the story, I wont make major changes. I want Odysseus to let
his son kill all the suitors without his help. With this, we can then prove that Telemachus
is as brave as his father even though he havent seen his father for a long time. I would
still make it a happy ending for the family.
