Director of Marketing & Communications
The Director of Marketing & Communications will work as part of an Advancement Team (Admissions,
Development, and Marketing Offices) to develop and implement internal and external outreach strategies that
maintain a strong and consistent branding strategy forThe Oakwood School. The Director of Marketing &
Communications position is a full time, year round, salaried position reporting to the Director of Advancement.
The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for leading the school’s strategic communication,
marketing and branding efforts by advancing the following priorities:
• Plan and execute programs that enhance the visibility and public perception of TOS
• Organize activities that support the admission, marketing and development objectives of TOS
• Ensure clear and transparent communication between & amongst all constituencies ofTOS
This person will work to bring to life the values and vitality of The Oakwood School and create content that
engages,informs, and inspires our constituents while remaining true to The Oakwood’s School’s mission and
strategic objectives.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop and implement a strategic marketing plan to create a deeper level of branding for the School and
address admissions goals across all media and audiences.
Plan and manage department budget including approving department expenses
Manage the production of the school’s internal and external communications specifically including weekly e-
newsletter and e-letter from the Head of School and e-blasts as needed.
Manage media relations, including writing and distributing press releases, cultivating relations with local
media outlets and crisis management related communication.
Manage, contribute and maintain all content for the School website and social media presence.
Manage the school’s photography and video efforts including attending and photographing on-and off-site
School events as well as the maintenance of a historical image library.
Oversee the production of all major school publications,including the annual report, schooldirectory,
handbooks,curriculum guide, admissions materials, campaign materials, event invitations, programs, etc.
Identify, negotiate,secure and produce all advertisements for admissions purposes.
Collaborate with Admissions Office on admissions-themed advertisements, marketing materials, events,tours,
information sessions and relationships with Realtors and other schools
Collaborate with Development Office on development-related electronic and print educational brochures,
solicitations, and stewardship pieces, including alumni newsletters and the Annual Donor Report
Promote all aspects and events of the school’s life from academics to summer camps.
Manage school’s relationships with outside website vendor,photographers,graphic designers and printing
firms
Conduct/oversee demographic and market research as needed.
Maintain common editorial and graphic standards across schoolpublications for branding reputation and
integrity.
Coach colleagues in marketing, writing, publication skills.
Continually assess effectiveness ofcurrent methods and look for trends and new ways to build brand
awareness

Core Skills and Qualifications:
Enthusiastic storyteller who will bring to life the values and vitality of The Oakwood School.
Skilled in traditional branding techniques
Familiar with social media marketing strategies and online content management systems.
Comfortable with or comfortable learning the basics of print and design tools, principally the Adobe Creative
Suite.
Relevant experience in a non-profit environment, with experience in independent schools preferred.
Past marketing and communications experience is preferred.
Superb writing and editorial skills, as well as an eye for publication design.
Ability to establish cooperative, effective and harmonious working relationships with a diverse group of
individuals, ranging from administration to board members, faculty, staff, volunteers and the general public.
Strong team player and active collaborator.
Demonstrated ability to manage programs and activities with strong organizational and time management
skills
Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively.
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple initiatives using independent judgment and producing quality work
within tight time constraints.
