5.  Book keeping is the most basic financial
activity.
 Book keeper tracks all of the transactions,
covering both sales & expenses.

6.  This is the function that takes raw accounting
entries & transforms them into usable &
comparable financial statement.
 Designing financial processes.
 Selecting accounting systems.
 Liaising with external auditors.
 Ensuring that there are no gaps or
oversights in existing processes.

7.  Paying tax means doing a lot of calculations
& filling out a lot of forms.
 So this function will make sure all of the
government forms & fillings are sent
complete & on time to the taxman.
 A strong Tax & Compliance function will
maximize the company’s net income by
going one step beyond simple compliance &
finding ways to minimize tax.

8.  It creates strategic & financial plans
that forecast what financial results in
future.
 They compare actual results with
prepared reports.
 Then it can prepare more accurate
forecasts for the future.

9.  Treasury is make sure that the
company doesn’t run out of cash.
 Forecasting the upcoming capital
needs.
 Managing currency risk.
 Investing surplus cash to generate
interest income.

10.  This is responsible for selecting
between the various uses of capital.
 Develop business cases to evaluate &
identify the most effective projects.

11.  It takes a hard look at some of the risks –
currency, interest, rate, market, operational,
legal.
 Try to quantify the possible impacts, so they
can be mitigate as much as possible.

12.  This is area of finance most heavily
populated by former investment bankers &
management consultants.
 Such as raising debt & equity financing ,
making capital structure decisions.
