Dick and Carey Model: Instructional Analysis <ul><li>Instructional Analysis is the second step in the Dick and Carey Model (shown below) </li></ul><ul><li>After you’ve set a goal, the designer should examine each step in achieving the goal to determine what learners must know to be able to do before they can learn to perform that step in the goal </li></ul><ul><li>Purpose of step: Identify the appropriate subordinate skills </li></ul>

Types of Goals <ul><li>Each goal is classified as Psychomotor, Intellectual, Verbal, Attitude </li></ul><ul><li>After classifying each goal you will determine what type of diagram to create </li></ul><ul><li>Psychomotor, Intellectual, and Attitude: Hierarchal Analysis Approach diagram </li></ul><ul><li>Verbal: Cluster Analysis Approach diagram </li></ul>

Subordinate Skills <ul><li>Skills that are needed in order to achieve a goal </li></ul><ul><li>Also called ‘Subskills’ </li></ul><ul><li>Most common is The Hierarchical Analysis Approach </li></ul><ul><li>Cluster Anaylsis Approach still uses the hierarchal theory, just a row of information will have a cluster of ideas </li></ul>

Hierarchal Analysis <ul><li>The most common approach in instructional analysis </li></ul><ul><li>After a designer has identified the goal and ‘subskills’ they will diagram their analysis </li></ul><ul><li>Approach is to identify just what the learner must know to be successful </li></ul><ul><li>Flow Chart: </li></ul>

Setting a Goal – Activity! <ul><li>Each student should refer to the Moodle site and refer to to the forum </li></ul><ul><li>Then, set a goal and think about the steps needed to achieve that goal </li></ul><ul><li>Reply with a goal and identify the ‘subskill’ that may be required in the step process </li></ul><ul><li>Label the document using your last name </li></ul>

Hierarchal Analysis: Activity! <ul><li>Build your own diagram activity! </li></ul><ul><li>Using the Webspiration link on Moodle, build a Hierarchal Analysis diagram </li></ul><ul><li>Students should use their goal and steps from the forum in the previous activity </li></ul><ul><li>Create a free WebspirationPro account </li></ul>
