2. Audience research
• Audience research is a method which is extremely important in the making of a
product, this is because you need to have a good insight and idea of who your
audience is so you can make your product appeal to them and suit their needs.
Audience research can be based off of age, gender, race, education, family
income and much more. So to put it in simple terms audience research is a term
used to concentrate on specific audience segments so that you can gain useful
knowledge and information about the audience so when it comes to creating the
product you can specifically target that audience as the way that they like it and
to suit their needs. It would be utterly pointless if you were to create a product
without conducting some sort of audience research because you would have no
idea about what it is that the audience likes so this would result in you creating a
product which could have a huge chance of not appealing to your
customers/audience.
3. Market research
• Market research is quite similar to audience research as it helps you gather
information about what it is that the market wants and likes. So to gather this
information you must do many various activities or actions of finding out the
information about consumers needs and preferences. You could do this by
conducting surveys and asking around the market what it is that people want
and need. You can do internet research and find out which companies are doing
better than others so that you can follow in their footsteps. There are many
different ways in which you can find out what the market needs and preferences
are. It is also extremely important because it would be pointless if you was to
create a product which no one consumed or wanted, you would end up with no
sales or any sort of market. So to avoid this you must do market research to find
out what is people consume and want so that you can create a product to suit
their needs.
4. Production research
• Production research is by far the most important and is always needed when
creating a product. This research is about advertisements and how other
products are being advertised. You must make sure that you have good
advertisement skills for your product. This is how business are made, so you
need good business skills so that audiences will be attracted by your
advertisements to come and buy the product or have an interest in the product.
The purpose of this is to simply make a profit and successfully get sales and a
market. Advertisements are extremely important because this is what will
attract the market to your product so you must make sure that you put a lot of
hard work into it and try to advertise as much as you can. Methods of this are
using bill boards, TV commercials, radio commercials, standing outside giving out
leaflets and business cards and so much more.
5. Quantitative research
• Quantitative research is research which uses numerical and statistical statistics.
So for example it would use research such as the costs of products or the
number of audience/customers you have. And the most important factor is the
profit and total income that you are gaining from your product, this way you can
easily find out what your gross profit is and it helps you keep everything simple
and in order. These sorts of research use many different activities such as online
surveys, face to face, telephone interviews and much more. So the main purpose
of this research is to clearly understand your statistics of your product.
6. Qualitative research
• Qualitative research is very useful as it helps you identify and gain a insight into
what problems or concerns that your audience have with your product, for
example you and your customers could all sit down together and discuss about
the product in which you have produced. Qualitative Research is also used to
uncover trends in thought and opinions, and dive deeper into the problem of
your audience. Qualitative data collection methods vary using unstructured or
semi-structured techniques. Some common methods include focus groups
(group discussions), individual interviews and much more.
7. Secondary research
• Secondary research is by far the most widely used method for colleting useful
information, this involves using research online and from other sources which
are not your own which is why this sort of research is very fast and simple. In
most cases this means finding information from third-party sources such as
marketing research reports, company websites, magazine articles, and other
sources. But information previously gathered, whether from sources external to
the marketer or from internal sources, such as accessing material from previous
market research carried out by the marketer’s organization, old sales reports,
accounting records and many others, falls under the heading of secondary
research.
8. Primary research
• Primary research is the main most known type of research, it’s the most obvious
one to use and one of the best to use to get direct answers from your
audience/customers. Primary research is Experiments, investigations or tests
that are carried out to acquire data first-hand, rather than being gathered from
published sources which is what secondary research is. So basically primary
research is the complete opposite to secondary research, because secondary
research is taking knowledge from other sources while primary research is you
gaining the knowledge yourself. Methods of primary research are surveys, group
discussions, face to face interviews and much more. The main purpose of
primary research is so that you get the most up to date answers because you are
conducting the research in the present time you are getting the most up to date
answers.
