2. Abstract
Abstract
This project presents a new system
configuration of the front-end rectifier
stage for a hybrid wind/solar energy
system.
This configuration allows the two sources
to supply the load separately or
simultaneously depending on the
availability of the energy sources.

& Sustainable energy sources
& Sustainable energy sources
Environmentally friendly solutions are
becoming more prominent than ever as a
result of concern regarding the state of our
deteriorating planet.
With increasing concern of global warming
and the depletion of fossil fuel reserves,
many are looking at sustainable energy
solutions to preserve the earth for the
future generations.
Other than hydro power, wind and
photovoltaic energy holds the most
potential to meet our energy demands.
4. Introduction to Solar Energy
Introduction to Solar Energy
Solar Energy was invented many years
back with a piece of shiny metal which
can reflect sunrays, it satisfied the basic
need of cooking and heating in ancient
days.
In modern days it is being used in many
ways by converting the solar energy to
electrical energy with a Solar Panel
6. Disadvantages of Solar Energy
Disadvantages of Solar Energy
Solar Energy is present throughout the
day but the solar irradiation levels vary
due to sun intensity and unpredictable
shadows cast by clouds, birds, trees, etc.
This made the concept of solar energy an
unreliable one and less used
7. Introduction to Wind Energy
Introduction to Wind Energy
Wind is also a form of solar energy. Winds
are caused by the uneven heating of the
atmosphere by the sun.
Wind flow patterns are modified by the
earth’s terrain, bodies of water and
vegetation.
Wind turbines are used to grab this wind to
rotate themselves and thus convert the
kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical
and then to electrical by rotating alternators
which are connected internally
9. Disadvantages of Wind Energy
Disadvantages of Wind Energy
Wind Energy is capable of supplying large
amounts of power but its presence is
highly unpredictable as it can be here one
moment and gone in another.
This made the concept of wind energy an
unreliable one and less used
10. Introduction to Hybrid Wind-Solar
Introduction to Hybrid Wind-Solar
Energy System
Energy System
The common inherent drawback of wind
and photovoltaic systems are their
intermittent natures that make them
unreliable.
However, by combining these two
intermittent sources and by incorporating
maximum power point tracking (MPPT)
algorithms, the system’s power transfer
efficiency and reliability can be improved
significantly.

Conclusion
By combining the two intermittent
sources of Wind and Solar and by
incorporating maximum power point

power transfer efficiency and reliability
can be improved significantly.
