The main image of this DPS represents Jay-Z in twice different connotations, this also implies the consistent
colour scheme that Q always abides to the Red and White. Whilst producing music the colours annotate a
emotion Jay-Z gives out towards the audience the red is to show his anger in expressing his music showing
the darker side of his music whilst in contrast to the lighter blue, which shows his brighter and more
relaxed side of his music taste. By keeping with the same type of colour scheme is appeals to the audience
to not confuse them but to also know the indication of Q magazine. His sunglasses hides his true emotion,
so as an audience we don’t know how he feels, this also encourages the light and dark side of the colours,
is Jay-Z mad or is he being serious? This effect is true to its purpose leaving the audience to configure.
Pull Quote
The pull quote highlights a phrase in the article, this is appealing to fans to understand what is going on in
the artist’s life, expressing little emotion through the photo and including Noel Gallagher sets the audience
off their feet to compensate the major attraction. Due to this the audience will want to read the article to
understand more of what is happening between the artists.
Main Text
The main text features two drop caps which indicate the start of a paragraph. This emphasis on the letter
will cover at least 2-4 lines of the text which will be aligned with the article writing. This symbolisation
encourages readers to know where they are. With the text Gutters appeal to split paragraphs up, this is a
consistent layout all DPS will own as it is conventional and breaks the article up. This declutters the article
writing and in this DPS it keeps all the text within 2 columns to keep the text tidy and clean being easier to
read.

In case some audiences are new to Jay-Z’s music, Rap Radar shows what this artist produces. This will
generally appeal to most of the audience as he may be the feature of the magazine and will create a large-
scale audience to interact more with his music to adapt or change people’s views of rap genre music.
Title
Although a title is uncommon this article provides a title to establish a hook of the readers interest,
especially being one of the larger fonts throughout this article it will appeal to the audience as a thing they
will first see or catch an eye too. This creates a sharp, short point that cuts straight to the chase which is
linked in with the main article itself.
Conventions
The most notorious convention Q uses in their magazine is the drop cap embedded behind the article
writing itself, This fills up all of the second page to show attention towards the article, as it is a red colour it
is a very appealing colour and one of the first things a reader would see once they have picked up and
turned the page to this article. Stereotypically Q features the start of the artists name in a bold red font
behind the article text to appeal to the audience. In this instance the J represents Jay of the artists name.
The J is quite transparent so it does not interfere with the writing and rather attracts the visual cover of the
page.

reinforce to the audience this is a Q magazine, which includes the Issue Number and Website so that any
