BRINGING PERSONALITY HOME
The same client Tess Alloway, a fashion designer asked for a light which reflected the character
of her fashion design work from her studio. Colours & geometrics from her work were used to
create a decorative wall light which reflects geometrics throughout the room.

14. Throughout my work experience and studies at university I have developed several important
transferable, employability skills. Firstly I have developed customer service skills through
working at Stanthorpe Newsagency and at the Westpac In-store. I also developed levels of
discression with clients through working at the bank which can be transferred and applied to
many work environments.
From my experiences at university I have definitely developed research skills. Part of the learning
process is researching projects, concepts and learning software programs and Australian
standards. This also applies to problem solving skills learnt through university assignments
both applying to individual and team work situations. Team work is another important skill
developed from my Bachelor of Environmental Design (Architecture). I learnt its important to
take initiative and respect and incorporate everyone’s ideas. Another major skill deriving from
both of these are time management skills. Especially working from home its very important to
be motivated and keep to a schedule plan in order to complete tasks. An integral part of the
degree is presentation and communication skills. With the added advantage of taking graphic
design as an elective as part of my degree, I have produced the skills to better communicate
present designs in my assignments which can be applied to clientel.
Through my interest in graphic design I have become adaptable and flexible in my interest and
skills to experience many design fields ranging from graphic and interior design which I chose
as electives at university right through to the field of architecture.
A final skill which I think is very important with todays age and the design profession is a
respect and appreciation for other cultures. This comes from my travelling experiences in Italy,
Dubai, New Zealand and Vanuatu. Also growing up on a farm I have made many international
friends where backpackers have passed through and I believe this is valuable life experience
as far as communication and values go.
