The document discusses the design of advertising materials for a thriller film. Photos were taken of graveyards and churches to use in ominous posters. The photos will be edited to black and white with only bloodstains in color. Mockups were created in Photoshop and PlaceIt featuring consistent black and white designs with red blood. Final posters and billboards were created in InDesign using the manipulated photos and grids to guide text and image placement.
5. POSTER THUMBNAILS ANALYSIS
When designing my posters, I wish to use mainly scenery shots of graveyards,
churches, etc.
Such as the photos I captured at St John the Evangelist church on Thomas Lane,
capturing the church itself and many of the gravestones.
My intention when using these pictures is to make my designs seem as intentionally
ominous and mysterious as possible, not fully answering questions the audience may
have about what to expect going into the film, only using the gravestones, churches and
blood stains to incite fear and intrigue.
I plan to edit the photos, as I captured them around 4pm and so the daytime lighting will
need to be edited out, making the photos black and white with the only colour shown
being the bloodstains.
12. MOCK-UP DESIGNS ANALYSIS
On the mock-up designs for the posters and billboards, I have kept a relatively
consistent look and feel, variations between each being the background, while still
being kept totally black and white except for the bright red blood.
I believe this makes the designs stand out, using the large contrast in order to keep
an atmosphere of eerie mystery and leave the audience wanting to know more
being left confused and uneasy, prompting them to look further into it and learn
more.
I believe this better reaches my target audience as it suggests unsettling themes
and ideas without being too overt about it, utilising subtly to make the audience
intrigued with the mystery but fully aware to expect to be scared.
16. FINAL DESIGN- ANALYSIS
For making the final designs for my posters and billboards, I decided to use the software Adobe
InDesign, as I was able to utilize the manipulated images from photoshop and finalize my ideal
design, using all that I had from the mockup Photoshop and PlaceIt posters and developing it as best
I could, such as implementing age ratings and social media hashtags on billboards and replacing the
"Coming Soon" text with a more specific "Coming October 2021" choosing October in particular due
to its associations with Halloween, and therefore Horror/Thriller.
While working on InDesign, I made very effective use of the box outline grids used for all the
text/images. This ensured I had guidelines to benefit my placement of all the different elements of the
poster. The document itself was loaded with 3 columns on the posters and 4 on the billboards,
allowing me to separate the spacings between the posters from left, middle and right and influenced
my decisions of where to place the text or images to ensure the final product looked better and more
appealing that it would've on Photoshop if I didn’t have the grids as guidelines.
