13. Introduction
• I believe my interests lie with studying the media,
which I have done for 5 years as of June 2021, and
my niche preferences are based around creative print
products, such as posters and magazines.
14. Academic History
• As I mentioned, I have studied media for 5 years. 2 years
in GCSE at Huntington Secondary School, 2 years for A-
Level at Huntington Sixth Form (until the Covid-19
outbreak) – achieving C grades in both years – and am
currently studying Creative Media at York College. During
these years I have learnt techniques for creating a variety
of media texts, such as photography & film, printed
media and electronic media. Additionally, mainly in the
first 4 years, I learnt about media theorists and their
theories and used them to explain why certain media
texts were created.
• I have also studied English Language at both GCSE and A-
Level – achieving a 7 and a B at each respective level.
15. Current Study
• It’s media studies just like I studied at Huntington,
but focuses more on the creative aspects than the
theory aspects I learnt back then. Whilst I think it is a
good thing to have the theory work still in my back
pocket, it’s just as, if not more important, to put
what I’ve learnt into good creative practice.
16. The Future
• I’m pretty undecided where I want to end up in
the future, but I have had a number of options
float about in my head:
– Starting a podcast, but unsure what niche interest of
mine I should focus on
– Over the summer I took up lyric writing as a pass-time
activity, leaving potential for songwriting and a music
career (not entirely useful for creative media, but
there’s also the prospect of designing album artwork
and promotional material for clients)
– General graphic designing for clients is also an option
for me
17. Outside College
• I work at Drakes Fisheries (down Low Petergate in
York) as a kitchen assistant. I tend to see it as
hardworking graft that pays me okay for the hours I
do (mostly weekends), and the tips over the summer
were utterly spectacular. The experience with
working in a dedicated team is among the most
enjoyable I’ve had, mixed with my dedication to help
keep the restaurant circulating – as I am mostly left
washing the dishes that restaurant customers use.
18. Conclusion
• In truth, I’ve not really had any intentions to go to
university, and those intentions haven’t altered over
the course of the summer. My reasoning for this is
that I feel I need to take a step away from education
following this second year and try to take myself
towards one of my intended goals.
• With that being said, the prospect of university isn’t
one that I have flat out disregarded, and should the
correct circumstances play out it is an option I may
consider.
Editor's Notes
Brief introduction referencing what subject/s (keep general if necessary) you are applying for and briefly why you want to go to university.
Write a short paragraph about subjects you’ve already studied at school/college that have helped prepare you for your chosen courses at University- level 2 or GCSE level. What did you make? What skills did you learn? Why did this make you want to progress on and study further etc.
