And what to do about them.

2. They like wood
When in Dubai, the government food inspectors
mentioned that there should be no wood in the
kitchen area.
So I was wondering about that.
3. They like wood
When the wood was replaced by steel, the
cockroaches and many other insects seemed to
disappear.
I did some research and found something called a
wood cockroach. It is like a termite but cockroach
size. Guess what. It eats wood.
4. They like wood
So now many people with experience in living in
many houses and apartments shall be having an
aha moment.
Where ever you have wooden shelves and
especially damp soft wood. You have a joe’s
apartment type of situation.
5. They like wood
So here is a theory of mine.
Ordinary cockroaches eat wood like termites.
Some biologists can do some further research
into it. Shall not cost much because they are
everywhere. Almost.
6. Not so prevalent here
I don’t like having insects and rodents around so I
use my learned experiences and experiments to
keep my areas clean with the least amount of
expenses of time and resources.
7. Sharing knowledge
The reason for this presentation is to share what I
have learned and hopefully others shall send what
they have learned to increase my knowledge also.
8. Genocide
To decimate, centimate, and millimate them, use
powders.
The best known is boric acid. My wife tried talcum
powder and it seems to work somewhat.
Due to not having immediate access to boric acid.
9. Genocide
Reason for powders :
When I was a kid I read about this.
When they go over boric acid, some sticks to their
bodies.
Then they clean themselves like a bee does.
This reduces the oil covering on their body and
then they die of dehydration over a period of days.
I think the chalks sold to place near the drains use
the powder method. Not checked.
10. Genocide
Place the powder in the corner of shelves where
they shall cross.
Do not use food powders like flour. The opposite
result can be expected from this type of powder.
So far Boric Acid is the best.
If you find something better do tell.
11. Coffee killer
About 10 to 12 years ago I read about a coffee jar
trap method.
Someone in california noticed they liked the smell
of coffee grounds.
So they put a tape around a glass jar at least 1
foot tall.
Straight vertical sides.
12. Coffee killer
The spiral taped jar allows them to climb up the
sides and to the top. The jar needs to be placed
touching the wall.
Once on the top they fall inside.
Inside are used coffee grounds and soapy water.
About 1 centimeter.
They shall die because they cannot come out.
13. Centipede
If you see a centipede, then it means there are a
lot of cockroaches in your area. As far as I know,
centipedes eat cockroaches.
Correct me if I am wrong.
14. Kerosene Oil
A major low cost deterrent is Kerosene Oil.
Find the first drain which has the max distance
from the main utility drain.
Make a bottle of kerosene and make it drip slowly
so that it drips one bottle of kerosene over a
period of a day.
See the result. They do not like kerosene.
15. Kerosene Oil
When at night when there is no water movement,
the kerosene oil shall accumulate fumes and drive
out the cockroaches.
The good news is that if the insects go away I
think think the large rodents also go away.
If you know more about this, please share.
16. Gels and chemicals
There are expensive gels and chemicals which
are placed near the ceilings, wall intersections
and also floor to wall intersections.
Need to make sure to keep away from pets and
children to avoid them swallowing the pea sized
gell installs.
17. Gels and chemicals
These chemicals show a noticeable difference
two weeks after implementation and their effect
lasts for at least 1 to 2 years.
18. So much for now
That is what I remember. If you know more,
please share.
When I recall some other idea, I shall update this
presentation.
