2. Arteries of. Face
Richly vascular
Supplied by FACIAL ARTERY and TRANSVERSE
FACIAL ARTERY
kavyasanil igids
3. Facial artery
Chief artery of face
Branch of external carotid artery
Commences in carotid triangle of neck
Just above the level of tip of greater cornua of hyoid
bone
Two course: cervical part and facial part
kavyasanil igids
4. Course of facial artery
Enters the face
By winding around’ the base of mandible
Pierces the deep cervical facia
At the antero inferior angle of masseter muscle
Can be palpated at thiis site ..hence. Known as anesthetist’s
artery
Runs upward and forward_ to 1.25 cm lateral to angle of
mouth
Ascends by Side of nose to medial angle of eye
kavyasanil igids
5. Facial artery
Terminates by supplying the lacrimal sac
And anastomosing with dorsal nasal branch of opthalmic
Artery
Tortuous in its course
Because itself present between the layers of facial muscles
Tortucity prevents undue stretching
kavyasanil igids
6. Branches of facial artery
Anterior and. Posterior
Anterior
Inferior labial- supplies lower lip
Superior labial-supplies upper lip and lower part of nasal septum
(antero inferior part)
Lateral nasal-supplies ala and dorsum of face
Terminal branches- lacrimal sac and anastomotic ttto dorsal nasal
branch of opthalmic Artery
Posterior branches small and unnamed
kavyasanil igids
8. Anastomoses
Anterior branch _ opposite braanches
Posterior branches _ with transveres facial and infra orbital
artery
kavyasanil igids
9. Transverse facial artery
Small branch of superficial temporal artery
Emerges from parotid gland
Passes over masseter
Between parotid duct and zygomatic arch
Accompanies by upper buccal branch of facial nerve
Supplies. Parotid gland ,duct. , Masseter, overlying
skin
kavyasanil igids
10. Veins of the face
Largest vein s the facial vein
kavyasanil igids
11. Facial vein
Bigins as angular vein
At the medial angle of eye
By the union Of Supra trochlear and Supra orbital veins
Takes a straight course
Behind the facial artery
Pierces deep facia
Just below the mandible
kavyasanil igids
12. Facial vein
Joins with the anterior division of retro mandibular vein
And forms common facial vein
Which then drains to internal jugular vein
kavyasanil igids
13. W formation of veins of face
Supra trochlear+ Supra orbital =angular
vein
Angular vein– continuous as facial vein
Superficial temporal + maxillary = retro
mandibular vein
Retro mandibular divides to ant and post
divisions
Anterior retro mandibular +facial
=common facial vein– internal jugular vein
Posterior auricular + posterior retro
mandibular =external jugular vein
kavyasanil igids
14. Applied anatomy
Facial vein connected to
Deep facial vein
Pterygoid venous plexus
Emissary vein
Cavernous sinus
So infection of Dangerous area of face can be lead to cavernous sinus thrombosis
Which s fatal
