EUROPEAN UNION
• The European Union is a group of 28 countries that operates as
a cohesive economic and political block.
• 19 of the countries use the euro as their official currency.
• The EU grew out of a desire to form a single European political
entity to end the centuries of warfare among European
countries that culminated with World War II and decimated
much of the continent.
The European Single Market was established by 12 countries in
1993 to ensure the so-called four freedoms the movement of :
COMMON WEALTH NATIONS
• Fifty three countries are members of the Commonwealth. Our
countries span Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Pacific and
are diverse – they are amongst the world’s largest, smallest, richest
and poorest countries. Thirty-one of our members are classified as
small states – countries with a population size of 1.5 million people
or less and larger member states that share similar characteristics
with them.
• These countries were part of British Colonies and British were
directly or indirectly ruling these countries.
SCANDINAVIAN
• "Scandinavia" refers to Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Some
sources argue for the inclusion of the Faroe Islands, Finland and
Iceland, though that broader region is usually known by the
countries concerned as Norden (Finnish: Pohjoismaat, Icelandic:
Norðurlöndin, Faroese: Norðurlond), or the Nordic countries.
• Scandinavia is a region in Northern Europe, with strong historical,
cultural, and linguistic ties. The majority national languages of the
region, and their many dialects, belong to the Scandinavian dialect
continuum, and are mutually intelligible North Germanic languages.
