2. A deformation process in which the material is
compressed between dies, using impact or gradual
pressure to form the part
Make or shape (a metal object) by heating it in a
fire or furnace and hammering it.

3. Forging is one of the oldest known metal
working process
The art of forging is least 4000 BC and probably
earlier. Metals such as bronze and iron were
forged by early man to produce hand tools and
weapons for war

5. OPEN-DIE FORGING
Also Called Flat Die and Smith Die Forging.
Hot forging
Uses simple and inexpensive dies
Limited to simple shapes
Number of components to be forged is too
small
Flat-Die Forging

6. OPEN DIE FORGING
Advantages:-
-Simple, inexpensive dies.
-wide range of sizes.
-good strength.
Limitations:-
-Simple shapes only.
-machining necessary.
-low production rate.
-poor utilization of material.
-high skill required.

7. CLOSED DIE FORGING
Also called impression-die forging compresses the
material into the shape of the die cavity
PREPARED BY : DEVANSU KHORASIYA(GIT-150120119066)
8. IMPRESSION-DIE AND CLOSED-
DIE FORGING
Impression-Die
Takes shape of die cavity
Forms a flash
Performing Operations
Fullering- material
distribute away
Edging- material gathered
into localized area

9. CLOSED DIE FORGING
Advantages:-
-Good utilization of material.
-Good dimensional accuracy.
-High production rate.
-Good reproducibility.
Limitations:-
-High die cost for small
quantities.
-Machining often necessary.

10. ROLL FORGING
Roll forging is a process where round or flat bar
stock is reduced in thickness and increased in
length. Roll forging is performed using two
cylindrical or semi-cylindrical rolls, each containing
one or more shaped grooves
