2. ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION
Achievement motivation is the predisposition or inclination of an individual to
accomplish something important & unique in a competitive situation. It is possible to
train an entrepreneur in an Entrepreneur Motivation Laboratory (EMT Lab) to acquire
certain basic skills in this direction.
ELEMENTS:-
Clarity of goods.
Visualizing the need for achievement.
Taking action towards the goals.
Anticipation of success or failure.
Accepting the positive or negative feelings arising out of success or failure.
Perceiving & seeking help to overcome the roadblocks.
Mc Clelland conducted Kakinada Experiment in Kakinada town of Andhra Pradesh 52
persons from business & an industrial community from Kakinada town was selected.
They participated in an orientation programme conducted by SMALL INDUSTRY
EXTENSION TRAINING INSTITUTE (SIETI), Hyderabad.
3. STEPS: -
1) The participants strived to attain concrete & frequent feedback.
2) The participants sought models of achievement, i.e., those who had performed well
& tried to imitate them.
3) The participants imagined themselves in need of success & challenge. They set
carefully planned & realistic work goals.
4) The trainees were asked to control day dreaming by thinking & talking to
themselves in positive terms
After two years the trainers were observed. It was focused that they performed better
than those who did not attend the programme.
Mc Clelland formed that people with flow achievement motivation are prepared to
work hard for money or such incentives but the people with high achievement
motivation work for status.
He come to the conclusion that people with high achievement need for achievement
possess the following attributes:-
They set moderate, realistic & attainable goals for them.
Prefer situations in which they can find solutions & take personal responsibility.
4. They need concrete feedback on how well they are doing.
They have a strong desire for attaining personal accomplishment.
They look for challenging tasks.
