Technology in the classroom is the collection of
techniques, skills, methods, and processes used in the
provision of educative services or in the
the accomplishment of learning objectives. In most cases,
it involves the use of machinery and equipment
developed from the application of scientific knowledge
to teach learners relevant skills and concepts identified
by a curriculum. The major misconception teachers
often have with educational technology is that it must
involve computers or an electronic whiteboard and the
internet but if you pay close attention to the first three
lines in this summary and understand the terms, then
you will realize technology is not completely about
electronic gadgets.

3. Technology is a distraction
This is very much far from the truth because
every persons or materials involved during
teaching and learning without proper usage ends
up as a bore or nuisance to the students.
Anything used by a teacher wrongly or
inadequately might be a distraction for learners
including classroom decoration, spoken words,
duster, masking tape, computer, etc. So it is not
technology that offers distraction to students but
the person - the teacher using the technology.
4. Technology is expensive
I do agree that technology has a cost just like
everything does and the cost of acquiring
technology depends on the forms anyway.
Technology provides cheap offers and
alternatives to pick from so if an interactive
whiteboard or projector is expensive, you can use
your laptop or tablet to support your teaching or
connect with your learners outside the classroom
using WhatsApp or Facebook if Skype is
inaccessible.
5. Technology is unnecessary
No matter how phenomenal and resourceful
your traditional way of teaching might be, you
would be a lot better if you include technology in
your lesson presentations. Technology provides a
better way of doing things and that alone is the
basis of human civilization and survival. If we
keep teaching students the way we were taught
without innovative adjustments, then we are
denying students the future by slowing their
pace to global development.
6. Technology will replace you
Common teachers! This is technophobic and
certainly unnecessary because this notion would
only rid you of your personal development and in
return, limiting your learners' experiences.
Technology is for teachers' usage and never
going to be a permanent substitute because it
might never reproduce human interaction
considering the emotional connection required
between teachers and learners.
7. Technology makes your job easier
Sounds strange right? Well it is true that
technology improves one's efficiency, minimizes
physical effort and reduces mental stress but that
does not mean your job as a teacher would be
easier. Actually, you will spend quantitative time
planning your lesson for a qualitative delivery
and this means, your work will not get easier on
the aggregate. Teaching with pictorial slides
would require a teacher to spend more time
creating the slides or rehearsing but less time
emphasizing the lesson since the slides would
provide support for the learners to comprehend
faster.
