Bringing G I S Into Your Classroom
1. Bringing GIS into your classroom The Kings School, Peterborough, 20 th November 2007 Programme of the Day 10.00-10.45: Introduction to GIS 10.45-11.45: Workshop 1 11.45-12.00: Coffee 12.00-1.00: Workshop 2 1.00-1.45: Lunch 1.45-2.45: Workshop 3 2.45-3.15: Review and Future John Harrison: Lead Practitioner, Geography
12. Progress so far! Stage 1 Write out a statement to describe and explain what your ideal conditions would be for a Café. You should have described your ideal conditions and explained why these conditions are required. Stage 2 Decide on the important elements of the microclimate that you are going to investigate. (E.g. temperature, wind direction, etc) You should have decided on at least 5 important elements. You will be adding to these using the data logger. Stage 3 Describe and explain the methods you are going to use (instruments, own judgement scores, etc) Your methods should be described to show exactly what you did to find out about each element. You should have also explained why you used each of the methods. Stage 4 Plot on a school map the locations you are going to investigate (between 5 and 10) Your locations should be clearly plotted on the map and a brief description of each site should be given. Give each site a number. This will be needed when using the data logger Stage 5 Present your data in a variety of ways: graphs (using Datadisc) /excel/AEGIS3 maps/own symbols, etc. Stage 6 Write a conclusion to explain the location chosen. Evaluate your methods (How could you have improved your investigation)
13. Recording your data 1 2 3 4 Results of your investigation should be shown as much as possible on the map itself and through clear annotations Size of each location. How can you present this on your map? Accessibility – how many routes are there to each location? How can you show this/ What about the environmental quality? How can you show this? How can you present your data logger information? LINK
