2. SHOT 1
This shot appears 4 seconds into the video. This frame shows two characters lying
in a bed, with long scruffy hair and generic band shirts. This shot is an example of a
medium 2-shot, which shows that the two characters are very close, which is shown
by the two characters wearing similar clothes, similar hairstyles and same posture
This potentially shows that they share very similar interests to each other, which
ultimately sets up the narrative throughout the video.
3. SHOT 2
This shot shows a close up of one of the characters from earlier cutting his hair.
This has been used to signal a change in the characters appearance and
personality. Whilst this shot plays out the lyric being sung over the top is “When we
first met your hair was long and brown, you haven't cut it all off yet”. This lyric has
been used to signify that when they first met, she had long hair, and when we see
them cutting their hair together, it shows that the two characters are in sync with
each other, or possibly in love.
4. SHOT 3
This next frame shows a close up of the same character who had previously cut his
hair, now brushing his teeth again. The hair is an example of an elliptical motif, and
it shows the passing of time. This lets the audience know that the character is still
very much in sync with the girl, as he has let his hair to grow long again after
getting it cut.
5. SHOT 4
This shot, is one of the only few cutaway shots in the music video
that pose no relevance to the narrative throughout. This shot is
played when the drums start, which shows the audience other
members from the band, and not just the singer. This is an
example of a medium shot, and shows the drummer wearing a wig.
This has been done to keep true to rest of the video, whereas
everybody is wearing wigs at some point. They are wearing
wigs, because the song frequently mentions hair, and how it is an
indicator as to how long the characters have been together.
6. SHOT 5
This frame shows a turning point in the video. In this frame the male character is
getting married to the girl, however unlike previously in the video, the male
character now has short hair whilst the girl has long hair. This has been used to
signify that they may not be as “in sync” as they were before, and that marriage
could pose a potential end to their long and happy relationship.
7. SHOT 6
This frame shows the two characters in a two-medium shot, kissing each other.
In this frame we can see the characters kissing and holding each
other, however unlike last time we saw them, there hair is now long. This would
signify that marriage worked out in the end, and that when we saw them
previously with different hairstyles, it only meant the girl maybe had doubts for
their relationship.
8. SHOT 7
In this frame, we can see the band performing the song. This is an example of
a long shot, which depicts the artists playing the song in a room with people.
This shot has been used to been used to gratify the audience, as fans of the
band will want to see the actual artists playing the song.
9. SHOT 8
This frame shows a medium shot of the two characters lying
in bed, similarly to how they were at the start of the
video, with the exception of the low key lighting which has
been used instead of the high key lighting from previously.
10. SHOT 9
This final frame, is almost identical to the start of the video, yet
is the last thing in the video to be seen. This has been used to
show that, despite all they have been through, they still love
each other as they did at the start. This has been shown by their
hairstyles, and how have grown long again since the last shot of
them.
