Our opening sequence is targeted for people over the age of 30,
preferably people who enjoy noir or American Gangster films.
Our audience would appeal to many aspects of our film. For example
the characters in our film are what fans of the genre would expect to
see. Also the setting of our film is very true to what an old noir film
would be set in, for example the first location is an abandoned field
with an old looking industrial site in the background.
One of the earlier shots that we use a high-angle handheld shot
focusing on the character of ‘The Rat’. This shot is quite unique, as it
is not a common camera shot that is used in this genre of film. These
kinds of shots used, are effective as it adds to the style of our film.
Another interesting shot we used is hand held tracking shot. This is
used when The Rat is running away. This shot is very fast paced, and
gives the audience a feel for how intense the scene is. Our film puts
the audience in the place of the two main characters of Tommy and
Joey, and the sequence allows the audience to witness the events
through the eyes of these characters, for example the camera cuts to
Tommy pulling out a gun from his jacket. This has impact because it
ensures the audience identifies with the main characters. This could
be used as a device to possibly shock the audience with the
characters later on the film.
