The document discusses the "Eliminate" phase of a 5S workplace organization process being implemented in a company's Line4/5 pilot area. Over 40 unnecessary items were removed from the area. A "red tag" log was developed to record items and behaviors that need elimination. The 5S team also visited another factory to learn about their successful 5S journey and potential benefits. Pictures show heat maps of problem areas and a storage area before and after unnecessary materials were removed. Guidelines for the Eliminate phase were created defining it as keeping the workplace safe, free of clutter and without unnecessary items or behaviors.

5S is about making
our company better
This week we’ve been working on the
‘Eliminate’ phase in our Line4/5 pilot
area. There have been some key
outputs with the developmentof a ‘red
tag’ log highlighting and recording items
and behaviours that need to be
eliminated.
More than 40 items in the area were
unnecessaryand simplyremoved.
Remaining items will be addressed
during the next ‘Sort’ phase.
During the lastweek some ofthe 5S
team visited a factory that has been on
their 5S journeyfor the lastthree years.
An extremely worthwhile visitthat gave
the team an insightinto whatcan be
achieved and the associated benefits to
all who participate.
The pictures above show some ofthe activity
carried out during our Eliminate step:

Towards the end of the ‘Eliminate’
phase we have spenta good amountof
time and effort in conjunction with the
team members to develop a definition
and set of guidelines thatwill underpin
this stage of the process:
Eliminate:‘’Workplace safe and free
of clutter, no unnecessary items or
behaviours in evidence.Eliminate
practiced daily and log up to date with
instances and actions’’
This will allow us to assess our
workplace with a greater level of
understanding and agreementas to
what ‘Eliminate’ looks like, feels like and
means to us as a team.
More updates next week on ‘Sort’!
