2. for the new diesel generator, with a new vacuum circuit breaker, protective relay, current transformers,
and similar components. I specified components, modified schematics, and procured and installed
material with its electrical subcontractor. ASSET Engineering also upgraded the 230 kV transmission line
relaying at PEPCO’s request. Existing single‐function, solid state relays were replaced with multi‐function,
microprocessor relays, specifically GE L90 and SEL‐311L devices. Working with PEPCO, I modified existing
AC & DC schematics, procured the line relays and other panel material, and retrofitted the existing panels
with an electrical subcontractor. A project challenge was troubleshooting during testing and startup. All
physical work was performed during a planned outage for routine plant maintenance, during which time
a large number of mechanical and electrical systems were maintained and tested. ASSET Engineering was
instrumental in driving testing and startup to completion, including assisting Facility personnel in
troubleshooting components outside of ASSET’s scope.
Project Engineer, Ingleside Ethylene, Markham, TX, CB&I / Powell Electrical Systems – Lead engineer for
device coordination and arc flash evaluation for medium and low voltage switchgear and MCC lineups
associated with a new ethylene storage facility. Device settings were provided in detailed tabular format
for Customer programming. A project challenge was maintaining coordination while trying to lower arc
flash energy levels to meet the Customer’s requirements. Another project challenge was trying to
coordinate protective relays and 480 V switchgear breakers so that lockout relays operated properly.
