2. The use of media technologies regarding my Research stages enabled me to explore means of
both secondary sourced information as well as primary of which I was able to obtain from
interactive platforms like google mail and social media. My exploration of both forms of
research led me to the development regarding my use of hardware and software, which in turn
gave me the opportunity to use those most efficient. As the research proportion of my
production stage was quite lengthy I encountered many technologies, however here I will be
evaluating the most significant;
Regarding hardware, I used an apple iMac computer of which I completed all stages of
production on. I used this particular computer as it was the best quality hardware available to
me and held all the necessary platforms on it that I would need. It was reliable and efficient
meaning I could perform the best in my media work using this, it helped that I was familiar
with the basic nature of the iMac. I also used technologies such as a Nikon DSLR Camera of
which I used for the development of my photography, this camera was really good to use as it
allowed me to explore various techniques and what with being a photography student (using
the same camera) I was secure in my use of it. Correspondingly with the camera, I used a 64GB
SD card to transfer my pictures onto the computer. Alongside this was my inclusion of a voice
recorder that was most prominently used to record the presentation of my research and also
to construct the audio of my questionnaires I created.
In terms of software, I consistently used google as the platform of a search engine, this was
vital to my research stage as it enabled me to find all the other technologies that I used. As
mentioned before, google mail was helpful as it led me to converse with relative people to my
topic. The use of Photoshop in my research stage as well as InDesign led me to the exploration
of possible ways that I could create my final product, Photoshop was also used to form mood
boards and brainstorming my ideas. Alongside my presentational formats I used platforms
such as Slideshare, amaze, Prezi, Microsoft and YouTube. All achieving different exhibitions of
my conducted research. My most prominent used technology was YouTube as it allowed for
videos of my work to be displayed, previous to the posting however, I would use final cut as a
means of creation and editing. To understand the visuals of my actual production, I looked into
the types of fonts available to me, for this I used DaFont, a free downloading website that is
could use for all my font needs, I created brainstorms on this aspect also. Finally , the main
source of Media technology I used was WordPress, the blog site used to keep track off all my
post on one page, this was very efficient and easy to use, I had creative freedom on the
aesthetics of my page ensuring everything was catered for my needs.
3. Looking at the use of media technologies regarding the planning stages of production, I directed
my use of both hard ware and soft ware as a means of assisting the beginning stages pre-
construction. As a result of my planning stage, much like me research stage being considerably
extensive, I used several technologies ranging with purposes from presentation, exploration and
idea collections. What with media technologies being readily available, my planning stage was
fuelled by primarily digital formats of planning however I also found that traditional methods
such as writing also was helpful.
Firstly, evaluating my application of hardware, I used similar products as my research stage. The
main platform I used was an Apple iMac of which provided me the security of using and storing
all important documents for my production. The software of the iMac was very advanced which
assisted my creative needs, they met to industry standers and was ultimately the most reliable
source or hardware available. As well as this I also used a separate apple product being an Apple
iPhone 6 as a way of constructing a time management programme. Initially I used excel however
found that I didn’t keep up to date with it and ended up forgetting that it was a step that I was
to refer to. My phone was always readily available and helped in the planning stages as a result
of the extensive software available on it. Other hardware I used was the Nikon DSLR camera of
which enabled me to create planning shots specific for the potential imagery I would be using. I
also used to camera to capture the visual of my questionnaires I performed. Lastly my media of
transferring these videos were a 64GB SD card as it had an extensive capacity of memory.
Looking at my uses of software, a pattern similar to my research is made. Because my planning
stages merged into that of my research, crossovers were made, however used for alternative
purposes. I used these software because of there versatility of which was expendable to each
stages of production without having to introduce new and confusing programmes. The main
software platform I used was Photoshop as it was easy to use and familiar as a result of having
already used in all previous years of media creation. Mood boards that I created were based on
this programme simply because of the professional and simple approach it had to the
manipulation and placements of images it allowed. I began to use excel however as mentioned
before was unable to use as it wasn’t always accessible to me, however using the ‘Notes’ app on
my phone I achieved the same planning methods. Such as researching the type of fonts I used
DaFont as a planning method for finding how to meet the codes and conventions, finding this
site however, along with many others, my search engine was again google as it was the most
accessible and appropriate. Unlike the other stages of production I also incorporated some
traditional methods of hand writing for brainstorms I felt it was easier to a constructs a
thorough presentation of ideas.
4. The media technologies I used that was most significant to the construction revolved
around a mixture of both hardware and software. Considerably, the methods of which I
used these technologies altered throughout the construction process as I developed my
ideas and intentions for the design and contents of my productions. Because the
construction stage is so heavily reliant upon both forms of media, the distinction of what
I used is reflective in both the successions of my outcome and the documentation of
how I got there.
Whilst evaluating my use specifically on media technology in terms of hardware I
continued to use the same platform and devises within my construction stage than I did
in previous. Dominantly, most of my work took place on the Apple iMac as it provided
me with the most advanced software relevant to my production, however whilst
documenting the process of doing so, I also used a windows 10 PC because not always
were the Apple iMacs available. During my construction I also used the Nikon DSLR
Camera to photograph all images featured on the cover page, the contents page and the
main article double page spread. The quality of the camera was the main reason as to
why I wanted to use it, there was many alternative setting that I could use to achieve
different aesthetics of my imagery, and knowing this, I was interested in having the
creative freedom, assisted by the extensive forms of setting on this camera, in the focus
of my photography. As a way of transferring images from the camera to the computer I
used a 64GB SD card as it held a lot of storage available for me to use completely for the
purpose of my production, it was easy to.
Considering my development of media technologies regarding software, I remained
consistent with my those used in previous stages. I began my construction with InDesign
for the main article and although I progressed with it for a while I felt that I wasn’t
Considering my development of media technologies regarding software, I remained consistent with my
those used in previous stages. I began my construction with InDesign for the main article and although I
progressed with it for a while I felt that I wasn’t grasping the software as efficiently as I should have and so
switched to Photoshop for the purpose of not only my front cover and contents, but also now main article.
Personally, I found that Photoshop was easy to navigate myself around and provided me with the tools
necessary for construction. The documentation of this stage was also reliant on software technologies and
like previous stages I used WordPress as the main form of presentation as well as programmes such as slide
share and Prezi as they allowed for creative control over how I worked. Dafont was significant to my
construction too as it was the basis for obtaining the texts I needed.
5. Considering all stages of production in terms of my Radio advert, media technologies
influenced the route in which I took to create my ancillary task. Because this production
was of an alternative media source; audio and not print, I used alternative platforms as
those already used wouldn’t have catered for my needs.
Regarding solely my research stage, a repetition of media software were used as I was
able to transfer my existing process of gathering information here. Platforms such as
this were primarily YouTube, as it allowed me to view exiting productions and google.
My planning stage varied slightly as I used a scripting documentation site called
Euroscript, it allowed me to develop my intentions and this particular software was very
easy to navigate myself around and use. For purposes of presentational means, I used
WordPress as a means of establishing my research and planning process. The hardware I
used for both of these stages were also repetitive of my previous construction, again
the most significant to my radio advert production was the Apple iMac as it allowed for
storage room and the available programming and software were of a really high quality.
My construction stages were when the use of alternative medias really became
prevalent on account of my not having used them in the main production. In terms of
hardware, I had expanded my use to cover that of the audio side of the media industry,
because of this, instead of using technologies such as a camera, I used a voice recorder
simply because it allowed for me to collect the recordings needed without extra visuals
that wasn’t required for a radio advert. The voice recorder I used was a Nikon and I
decided to use this particular one was because it was of a high quality. I took in to
consideration the memory card in the recorder as well and assured that I used one with
a lot of storage as this would have benefited my filming in that I was able to record as
much contents as required. After the recording of my advert, I transferred my works
onto the Apple iMac again, it was here where the use of media software was relevant.
To edit my radio production together I used to programme Final Cut Pro. At first I found
it difficult to get to grips with on account of not having use it before, however soon I
was able to use it with clarity and precision. I wanted to use Final Cut pro as it allowed
for highly professional quality sounding and assured that with development of my
recordings, I was able to eliminate any ‘tinny sound’.
6. My use of media technologies in terms of my billboard advertisement reflected
similarly to that of my other print based constructions; these being the main
productions. As making the billboard was my ancillary task, I created this media
after the main production, and having then already established the appropriate
conducts of media that worked well with me and assisted my needed, I repeated
a lot of the same technologies.
Looking directly at my research and planning stages combined, I used software
that allowed me to explore existing examples of productions following the same
idea. This was primarily google and slide share as I was able to then fond an
understanding of the codes and conventions. My presentational needs meet the
same technologies as I was able to use these platforms for multiple purposes.
WordPress was also a consistent theme in my presentational requirements and I
had to update my blog with the constructional and research process. Much like
my accompanying ancillary task, the radio advert, I didn’t necessarily use a wide
range of hardware within this stage, it was only the Apple iMac. This was
sufficient enough, however as a result of its versatility regarding usage.
Now focusing on the main construction of my billboard I used a slightly more
varied range of both hardware and software than what I had done within my
research and planning stage. Hardware used consisted most dominantly of my
camera and the Apple iMac computer. As Billboard are notorious for their
simplistic approach to imagery and text, I wanted to ensure I had a really
aesthetically pleasing image as the text would only be a placement on it. Because
of this, I orchestrated a shoot consisting of a colourful platter of vegetables, I
needed up really liking this shoot as the camera I used, a Nikon DSLR, was able to
capture all the textures and colours vividly and as a result I included it in my
contents page production. To transfer my works over, I used a 64GB SD Card as
there was sufficient storage available. In terms of software used, I stuck to using
Photoshop as my main platform because I was comfortable with in and as I was
working with imagery, Photoshop would provide me the best platform to do so.
Others I used were for presentational means and these were slide share,
WordPress and Dafont.
7. Considering my evaluation process of which I am currently doing, my use of media
technologies was primary for purposes of presentation as the script work and writing of my
evaluation were mainly typed up on Microsoft Word. However I did use a combination of
both hardware and software. With the evaluation stage including four different questions it
was important to incorporate alternative platforms of presenting my thoughts on.
Firstly, following suit of the previous stages, my main source of hardware used to assist my
evaluation stage was the Apple iMac as it functions as the most reliable source of
technology that was available to me. This particular computer provided a variety of software
platforms and when considering the purpose of presenting my evaluation process, this was
mandatory. Another significant hardware used was a voice recorder of which enabled me to
capture high quality recordings of my own response to the provided evaluation questions.
Similarly, as a form of documentation, I also used a Nikon DSLR Camera as it enabled me to
film certain responses such as audience feedback and questionnaires. Because I used this
camera throughout all stages of production, from research to the ancillary tasks , I was
familiar with how I was to use it to my advantage and use it as a video recorder despite its
prime use being only a camera. Lastly as a method of transferring over images and videos
taken on the camera, I used the same memory card as previously said before; this being the
64 GB SD Card. During my evaluation stage, this was most significant on account of how
much storage all the videos would take up.
Considering the software used in terms of my evaluation process, I found that this area of
media technology was most profound as it enabled me to present my written work
creatively and in alternative methods. Because I filmed parts of my evaluation feedback, I
used final cut pro as a means of editing all clips together seamlessly and efficiently. This
particular programme was something that I had used within my ancillary tasks and I was
able to use it without worries due to experience and the fact that it is one of the most
advanced editing programmes available to me. Other forms of media technologies that I
used for the purpose of presentation was slide share and YouTube as both allowed me to
extend the creativity behind my written works that were all created on Microsoft platforms
.
