Zhishan-Yan Hill
Shuanxi River
The site is located between Shungxi River and Zhishan-yan
Hill, adjacent to Shungxi River Park. It is a rare site in Taipei
where surrounded by abundant vegetation. Therefore, the
main design intension is to embrace the environment.
By having building setbacks on each floor creates spaces
for skylight. In this case, the upper the level the brighter the
space is. In this 5 story building, the gradient lighted spaces
of each floor matches with program and view requirements.
The larger space in the bottom is for social program like living
room and kitchen. The more intimate size of spaces in upper
level has better view and also the longest occupancy rooms.

3. Concept of
Enclosure & Openness
Enclosure Avoid unpleasant front street view and adjacent buildings
Openness Embrace south side river view
View at front street
EntranceGround Floor
Only use see-through fence
on the south side to embrace
the park beyond, yet keep
privacy from the entry street.
2nd Floor
The glass wall on the south
side as in contrast to the
other three sides of walls
creates a directional space
and visual connection with
adjacent river park.
3rd Floor
Shuanxi river view begins
from this level, and remains a
directional space.
4th Floor
As 4th floor is higher than
buildings in front, the hill view
begins at this level. Therefore,
more windows open toward
the hill view.
5th Floor
Maximum glass walls and
windows to make the most of
hill view and river view.

5. South elevation
North elevation
Elevation Concept
A structural system with bearing walls and flat slabs
providing support for all or major portions of the vertical
loads.
D = 1100mm D = 1100mm
The facade module is based on the bearing wall width
which is 1100mm. The window locations are based on
the room programs. The unique rhythm is generated by
the building structure and interior uses.
6. In general, there are fewer openings on the north façade except 4th and 5th floor where you get to see the hill view.
The unique rhythm is generated by a modular system and the interior program which is from the structure.
Mostly glass façade create visual connection with Shuanxi River and river park.
