Abstract
Residential architecture is, quite simply, the process of designing and building
residential, non-commercial properties and living spaces. Residential architecture
includes everything from townhomes to mansions to apartment complexes and
everything in between. It can be modern or nostalgic. Residential architecture is all
about capturing the needs and desires of the homeowner and translating these often
obscure concepts into a real life home of their dreams.

Introduction
It is a residence design at Adama built to adopt the collaboration of functional and
aesthetic value without away from the norm of the environment and society. In
other hand the residential building is designed economically and utilizing available
ways of design and construction.
The house has two stories. The ground with living area and the first floor with the
master bad room and other important rooms

Site introduction
Location Adama city is located in Oromia national regional state, its astronomical
location is 8°44’ north latitude and 39°04’ east longitude foundation. Adama
mostly know as windy city.
Macro & Micro site analysis
Macro ;Neighborhood context the existing and proposed building uses in the
neighborhood is residential and newly constructed buildings or under
construction residential buildings The site found apart from the main road by
to blocks so due to the fact there is less activity of strong vehicle or
pedestrian traffic.
Micro;
STRENGTH
1. The location of the site is in the middle of the residential house area so
it is suitable for to be residential building.
2. The site does not have much noise pollution.
3. Site do have existing vegetation.
WEAKNESS
1. Currently the site has not well preserved.
OPPORTUNITY
1. The site is close to public services and commercial services like bank
and educational center.
THREAT
1. Because of throwing garbage on the site it may affect the site demand.

Design strategies
To keep people comfortable you’ll need to use the right combination of passive
and active design strategies. High-performance buildings use the right blend of
passive and active design strategies to minimize energy, materials, water, and land
use.
Passive design strategies; The building use natural energy sources instead
of purchased energy like electricity. These strategies include daylighting,
natural ventilation, and solar energy. Due to the orientation the site.
Active design strategies; Use purchased energy to keep the building
comfortable while at the night. These strategies include forced-air HVAC
systems, heat pumps, radiant panels or chilled beams, and electric lights.
To sum up the everything that has been started so far the building use both
passive and active design strategies

The aesthetic and psychological impact: the aesthetic impact
I planed the aesthetic view of the building should be attractive without adding of
some curvy structure thus the aesthetic view of the building centralized on solid
form which is help to associate with the concept of the building in that case I try to
organize solid forms as much as possible
Psychological impact
The organization of the form or the orientation of the form make the building
psychologically valid because the for include voids and extrusion.
In that case the void gives mentally relief for the person who Use the building and
it gives wide opening view for the building. Which makes clear view to outdoor
scenario.
How should it relate to the surrounding? There is no big difference but because
of the concept and the idea it has a bit difference from the surrounding. The
concept try to express the character of the client and try to collaborate the aesthetic
value of the building the functionality of the building.

In other hand it should not be have a big difference from the surrounding because
of the owner of the building wants to socialize with the environment so if building
structure has a big difference it may will be the barrier between the client and his
neighbor because socialization with the environment need adaptation with the
environment thus the image similarity and distinct form may affect the living
experience so it also affect the adaptation of the environment. So in this case it
shall not to be big difference.

Sewage disposal the project consider sewage disposal by using septic tank
under the ground of the plot area.
Water supply due to the good supplement if water in the environment the
project use direct pipe line from the mine city water supplement
Solar radiation and ventilation the building has orientation advantage as I
mentioned in the site analysis so I used pure glass wall in order to get
morning sun light.
On the other hand for the exact purpose of ventilation this actively
demonstrate that including the clear wall glass and other window opening
allow ventilated air to the building by all direction of the building based on
the wind direction of the site.
Vegetation in order achieve the greenery the project has consider greenery
area
Legal restriction on the project try to consider some legal restriction along
the line of site back other neighborhood area
Material considerations
Structural; on the project apply frame/lattice structure with the include of
structural element
Durability; the building constructed by hallow concert block which means
the block doesn’t rot, warp or glow mold extreme weather. Even with a
lifespan of up to 100 years, so we can be sure the building’s structural
integrity is not compromised over the years
Aesthetic; by the organization composition of the form and selection along
lines of architectural texture which means the extrusion gives the building
architectural texture and also the color combination of the building which is
white and black colors displays the asymmetry between the upper and the
lower of the parts of the building mostly observed on the side of the building.
